( OPEN ) GAME START.

▶ WHO: Everyone.
▶ DATE: July 9th, 2015 (Day 1)
▶ WARNINGS: Blood, violence, general zombie horror.
▶ SUMMARY: You've met with a bad... however that line goes. Welcome to Earth.

GOOD MORNING!

Please try and ignore whatever it is that you just heard. It should only last for up to a minute... maybe.

It... it is morning, right?

There are no windows.

There's a light, but it's barely considered one. The compound runs on a solar generator, but that doesn't mean it has a lot of power. The light seems to be hanging from the ceiling, swinging precariously. That's when you might actually start to wake up, sit up, find the things that are familiar to you... and then some of the things that aren't. It'd be wise to explore the small room you're in before leaving through the steel door, but there's nobody around to tell you that.

Outside is a tightly knit compound, just as dark and metallic as the room. The hallway you're in houses dozens more doors identical to yours, and if you're unlucky there may be more people poking their heads out through them, just like you. There's a dull glowing sign that reads MEDICAL BAY but not all of you remember being hurt. Some of you may be just fine, apart from the memory of the sound you heard when waking up.

The Medical Bay is stocked with enough medicine to last a couple of months. There's almost everything that can be found in a hospital. Somebody was thinking ahead.

Outside of the Medical Bay are more doors, some are even locked—many aren't. There are living quarters, a food storage, a kitchen, some laboratories; even a room full of computers and nothing else, all with a screen asking for a password. There's only two doors out of the compound, a vehicle bay with what appear to be a few military jeeps and trucks, and the front doors. It's on the inside of the front doors that something is painted in bright red, flecked with what smell like blood:

DO NOT GO OUTSIDE WITHOUT A GUN AND WATER.
GUNSHOTS ATTRACT THEM.
HOLLOWS IS 1.3 MILES NORTH OF HERE.
GOOD LUCK.

And on the outside of the doors, if you choose to open them:

THE WORLD ENDED JULY 3RD, 2015.

Now... how long ago was that? And where is this place? Luckily for you, Hollows is a small town that can be raided. It hasn't been too long since the apocalypse—surely you'll be able to find something there. Batteries, food, weapons, maybe some people—and what you're guaranteed to find. Them, whatever that means.

Outside of the compound there's a fence with a single gate. Nothing can get past this unless you let them in for tea, so be careful. There's a shooting range and a large shed full of weapons and ammo, enough to last two months if you're careful. Guns, knives, anything that would be used by the military and police is hidden away in the shed. There are even a few hunting bows with arrows.

If you climb up the ladder to the top of the wall, there's enough room to walk along the top. There's definitely something moving in the distance, something you should definitely be worrying about. Maybe it's time to get a good look with a sniper rifle...?

Oh.

It's gone.

Maybe it was just a trick of the light. Regardless, it's impossible for everyone to stay in the compound forever. There are nefarious things at work! The choices are to go to Hollows, stick around, or go somewhere else. Really, the world is almost a blank slate. Maybe more of a used slate, but still yours to explore.

When the night comes, you should be hiding. The screamers, the ragers, whatever the hell they are, are running full tilt through the streets and across the landscape, running through anything in their way, ripping apart anything alive. If you don't make any noise, they won't notice you. Especially since they're stuck listening to each other. But if you get noticed by one, it won't be long until a horde forms... you might be able to outrun one for awhile, but they don't seem to let up on their breakneck pace. Maybe someone should have told you how to kill them.

OOC NOTES.

There will be zombies in Hollows. Whether you meet them on the way there is up to you. Apart from the undead and the animals (maybe somebody should let those poor creatures out of their houses) the town is completely deserted. In fact, the closest thing you can find to a human are the bodies of those who died without being bitten, and there's even few of those. You can find anything you'd find in a normal town here, and are free to loot and raid the houses and stores—the cops won't be coming, after all. The power is OFF apart from what you can find that is solar powered or still has a charge. If you're lucky and find another town while exploring the first few weeks, you might find an area that still has power—thank hydroelectricity.

Just keep in mind travel time... and travel expenses.

You have creative freedom over everything else. The world is open. The only stationary places are landmarks and cities—if you want to go to Texas and talk to the poor astronauts stranded up in space, it's there. (Might be a long trip, though...)

If your character can figure it out by geography before getting to Hollows, the compound is located a few hours from the west coast, in California.

The way to kill a zombie is blunt force to the head. The head doesn't need to be removed, but significant damage needs to be done to it. This does not include the throat—it needs to be a headshot.

There's also a glaring hint. The computers in the compound, asking for a password. It is impossible to hack at this time. There will be more on this later!

Finally, if your character is exploring outside of the compound (or extensively inside of it) there's a comment here for linking me the thread. You can also PM me! I'll be ducking in with what your character may or may not have found, via a response to the actual RP thread.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS please direct them here!

[Nods along with her questions. All those questions. Yeah, the sun, the enemy in the sky. 'Course he knows what that is and he has no idea she thinks he's an idiot who doesn't know a wire from a fireball. Doesn't correct her because who doesn't know of that phrase, grab the sun? Even if the Immortan wasn't worth worshiping in the end, the V8's religious chants still ring through his body. Awe-inspiring and all he knows.]

This thing is mine. I saw it first.

[Saw it first so it's his and he'll probably regret being gluttonous in Valhalla, of all places-- but that's for later. Turns out overwhelming bliss is a farce. Nux feels the same as he did before the crash, just confused and delighted all at once; his envisioned afterlife has not killed his apocalypse mentality.

He swings an arm out, drags it along the floor to collect whatever other pieces are lying around into a sad little pile around his legs.]
axeyou: (u don't say - with that peer pressure)

[And just as the last tangle of wire slithers by, on its way to join his pathetic little horde--Johanna steps on the tail end, halting progress. She doesn't weigh that much, but standing with her weight sunk down onto the wire is a position of power, one that renders the wires immobile.

The urge to horde and collect is pretty keen in her, but that's not what this is. Not exactly.]

I'm seeing it now. And I want this part.

[She smiles.]

Please.

[This stranger is very shiny, very sharp and shiny and clean and she reminds him of Slit, suddenly, when she steps on his wires. His wires. Slit isn't so shiny but it's a thing he'd do just to piss him off.

Nux gives the wires a hard yank, eyes narrowing up at her. She said please but it sounds mean. Manners are rare where he's from; bullying, common. Not gonna work.]

-- No. Said it was mine, so find your own.

[Fingers tighten around the clump, possessive.]
axeyou: (axe - take him to that university)

[personal profile] axeyou 2015-07-14 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's petty, and it's mean, and yet she's still got her foot stomped down on the wires. Pissing someone off is sometimes just motivation enough.]

But I like this one.

[She droops her lip, an affected pout.]

Tell you what, cutie. Why don't we split this one. [She lets her shoulder drop, an exaggerated movement. Her axe is back there, strapped to her back, but not so securely that she couldn't have it in her hand in a second.] Or you could say please to me.

[manners, bro.]

[His eyes widen at the slice of metal made so obvious - that's a heavy, chopping thing. Could chop his wires in half. Nux doesn't let go of the twist; his palm grips it tighter like he wants to protect it. Protect these precious, bright-colored straws of power.]

-- If you split it, it won't work!

[The horror. She wants him to say some word and this War Boy's certainly not above bending to that if it means he can save the coil.]

Don't split 'em, please!

[Desperation when he says it and there's no attempt to be slick back. Nux doesn't know that game.]
axeyou: (ooOOo - done stole your streetness)

[personal profile] axeyou 2015-07-17 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[She doesn't let up right away, but--after a beat, to let that fear linger--Johanna leans back, easing her weight off of her foot and off of his precious little wires, too.

It's not nice, because Johanna isn't nice. What it is is a momentary power trip that gives her just a little boost. He's pathetic, all right. But there's annoying pathetic, and then there's cute pathetic, and he might just qualify for the latter.]

Well, since you asked so nice. [Like this is benevolence. Johanna flicks her hair over her shoulder, as she sinks her weight into her hip.] But that means you owe me, big boy.

[He's still got that passive tugging on the cluster and when she lifts her foot, his body's jolted back just a little from the force. But they're his! His again and he crushes the wires to his chest, protective as he leans back against the TV stand.

There's all sorts of things in his eyes when he flicks his gaze back up to meet hers'. Confusion, fear, indignation. They catch her hair, too the way it's flung over her shoulder so long and sleek. Who is this? Another soul, somehow made it to Valhalla? He's judgmental when he thinks: she's not the type. Not someone heroic.]

-- Owe you what?

[Hissed at her like some sort of cornered animal more than a person.]
axeyou: (yeah - excuse my french i'm in france)

[personal profile] axeyou 2015-07-20 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[She smirks, right in the face of that mingled expression.]

That's for you to figure out, handsome.

[All snotty and imperious. Truthfully, he doesn't look like he could do her much good. But looks can be deceiving, obviously. Johanna has banked a lot on that herself in her past. And if she had to put down a bet, now, on him? She would put money on him being less useful than she was when she was doing her act.

That doesn't mean useless. Johanna doesn't deal in secrets, and she doesn't take allies. Favors are another thing. She doesn't bat an eye at the whole feral routine, but keeps right on smirking.]

You can owe me. Or you can find something I want. Your choice--but either way, I'll come and collect later. Sound good?

["Compliments" bounce off him; he doesn't know how to respond to such words, earnest or not. Doesn't relate to his skill as a black thumb and so it means nothing. All he can sense from her is spikes, spikes, spikes. Something nasty for the sake of it. Plenty of 'em like her at the Citadel. Even if she's so shiny it hurts, she ain't any different.

But her intention. It-- doesn't sound good. No, not at all. But he's dealt with these types enough to know how to handle them and Nux isn't willing to throw up fists over it, get into a scuffle. Rather let it alone and keep his collected machine parts safe. So he just nods. Sullen-nods, watching her from the floor under a furrowed brow.]
axeyou: (blase - swagger goin swell)

[personal profile] axeyou 2015-07-22 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Good.

[Crisp, pleased, she sinks back a step, withdrawing. Whether or not he intends to keep his word on that, she doesn't know. But she intends for him to keep it. That's what really counts.

With a prim showiness, she touches her fingertips to her chest.]

I'm Johanna Mason. Remember it.

[He'll remember that. Sure he will. Weird name, not like a name he's ever heard and who could forget someone sharp like a knife who'd essentially just blown in and extorted him? Doesn't take his eyes off her as all he does is keep nodding, scraps still pressed protectively to his chest. There's no name-trading here; as far as he's concerned they're done-- for now.]
