( he keeps walking, of course he does, because what point is there? maybe a bit of pride to shove in his face ( nice accelerator after all, raymond. where's the best place to get garbage these days? ), but that's nothing he ever wanted from ronnie -- because he already had it, somewhat, a sort of acknowledgment between the two of them where ronnie was always too nice, and hartley was never quite so mean, and that was that. that was them. all he'd ever wanted was for ronnie to believe, to trust him, to understand that he just wanted to save people, protect them from the wrongdoings of eobard. but it's too little too late, now. the one instance when hartley managed to rely on someone else for a change, and what has it amounted in? a set of broken ears and the wistful hope of death -- no, hartley has nothing to say to him, not anymore.

he keeps walking.

of course, ronnie catches his arm then and hartley pretends it doesn't make him gasp -- why would it? it's not like he cares about ronnie, not like he'd thought he was dead for some months after the explosion and was only put at ease after reviewing video files from that night and seeing, exactly, what happened to him. hartley doesn't care. he could be dead, and it wouldn't change anything -- ronnie can die and he can take caitlin and cisco with him, and hartley can feel envious that he still has to be here with this stupid set of ears that hears way too much, that hurts way too much to stand. death can come next. first is revenge.

not on ronnie, not because he's some simpleton who couldn't listen to the easiest of orders. don't let wells near the accelerator, makes sure everything is up and running. what thought does hartley have towards him other than irritation? at one time it was different -- one time, before things went haywire, before harrison was eobard, before cisco and caitlin, when it was just ronnie and hartley and hartley's stomach flat on his desk, ronnie pressed up behind him -- it's different, now. hartley is different. he doesn't have time for niceness or the good nature ronnie exudes. now is the time for hate, for loathing, for vengeance, for paying the piper.

with an exaggerated eyeroll, he turns around, roughly pulling his arm away from ronnie's grasp. his lips are set in a scowl, arms raising to cross over his chest.
)

No, I just never wanted to see you again, Raymond. ( cruel as it is, hartley can't be sure if he's lying or not when he says it. ) Where's your accelerator now? Finally up and running? No -- no wait, I think I heard something about it in the paper. "Killed in tragic accelerator explosion, Ronald Raymond." ( he grits his teeth. the i told you so doesn't feel nearly as good as it should. ) Congrats on the hero cred. I'm glad one of us turned out on top.
