( OPEN ) GAME START.

▶ WHO: Everyone.
▶ DATE: July 9th, 2015 (Day 1)
▶ WARNINGS: Blood, violence, general zombie horror.
▶ SUMMARY: You've met with a bad... however that line goes. Welcome to Earth.

GOOD MORNING!

Please try and ignore whatever it is that you just heard. It should only last for up to a minute... maybe.

It... it is morning, right?

There are no windows.

There's a light, but it's barely considered one. The compound runs on a solar generator, but that doesn't mean it has a lot of power. The light seems to be hanging from the ceiling, swinging precariously. That's when you might actually start to wake up, sit up, find the things that are familiar to you... and then some of the things that aren't. It'd be wise to explore the small room you're in before leaving through the steel door, but there's nobody around to tell you that.

Outside is a tightly knit compound, just as dark and metallic as the room. The hallway you're in houses dozens more doors identical to yours, and if you're unlucky there may be more people poking their heads out through them, just like you. There's a dull glowing sign that reads MEDICAL BAY but not all of you remember being hurt. Some of you may be just fine, apart from the memory of the sound you heard when waking up.

The Medical Bay is stocked with enough medicine to last a couple of months. There's almost everything that can be found in a hospital. Somebody was thinking ahead.

Outside of the Medical Bay are more doors, some are even locked—many aren't. There are living quarters, a food storage, a kitchen, some laboratories; even a room full of computers and nothing else, all with a screen asking for a password. There's only two doors out of the compound, a vehicle bay with what appear to be a few military jeeps and trucks, and the front doors. It's on the inside of the front doors that something is painted in bright red, flecked with what smell like blood:

DO NOT GO OUTSIDE WITHOUT A GUN AND WATER.
GUNSHOTS ATTRACT THEM.
HOLLOWS IS 1.3 MILES NORTH OF HERE.
GOOD LUCK.

And on the outside of the doors, if you choose to open them:

THE WORLD ENDED JULY 3RD, 2015.

Now... how long ago was that? And where is this place? Luckily for you, Hollows is a small town that can be raided. It hasn't been too long since the apocalypse—surely you'll be able to find something there. Batteries, food, weapons, maybe some people—and what you're guaranteed to find. Them, whatever that means.

Outside of the compound there's a fence with a single gate. Nothing can get past this unless you let them in for tea, so be careful. There's a shooting range and a large shed full of weapons and ammo, enough to last two months if you're careful. Guns, knives, anything that would be used by the military and police is hidden away in the shed. There are even a few hunting bows with arrows.

If you climb up the ladder to the top of the wall, there's enough room to walk along the top. There's definitely something moving in the distance, something you should definitely be worrying about. Maybe it's time to get a good look with a sniper rifle...?

Oh.

It's gone.

Maybe it was just a trick of the light. Regardless, it's impossible for everyone to stay in the compound forever. There are nefarious things at work! The choices are to go to Hollows, stick around, or go somewhere else. Really, the world is almost a blank slate. Maybe more of a used slate, but still yours to explore.

When the night comes, you should be hiding. The screamers, the ragers, whatever the hell they are, are running full tilt through the streets and across the landscape, running through anything in their way, ripping apart anything alive. If you don't make any noise, they won't notice you. Especially since they're stuck listening to each other. But if you get noticed by one, it won't be long until a horde forms... you might be able to outrun one for awhile, but they don't seem to let up on their breakneck pace. Maybe someone should have told you how to kill them.

OOC NOTES.

There will be zombies in Hollows. Whether you meet them on the way there is up to you. Apart from the undead and the animals (maybe somebody should let those poor creatures out of their houses) the town is completely deserted. In fact, the closest thing you can find to a human are the bodies of those who died without being bitten, and there's even few of those. You can find anything you'd find in a normal town here, and are free to loot and raid the houses and stores—the cops won't be coming, after all. The power is OFF apart from what you can find that is solar powered or still has a charge. If you're lucky and find another town while exploring the first few weeks, you might find an area that still has power—thank hydroelectricity.

Just keep in mind travel time... and travel expenses.

You have creative freedom over everything else. The world is open. The only stationary places are landmarks and cities—if you want to go to Texas and talk to the poor astronauts stranded up in space, it's there. (Might be a long trip, though...)

If your character can figure it out by geography before getting to Hollows, the compound is located a few hours from the west coast, in California.

The way to kill a zombie is blunt force to the head. The head doesn't need to be removed, but significant damage needs to be done to it. This does not include the throat—it needs to be a headshot.

There's also a glaring hint. The computers in the compound, asking for a password. It is impossible to hack at this time. There will be more on this later!

Finally, if your character is exploring outside of the compound (or extensively inside of it) there's a comment here for linking me the thread. You can also PM me! I'll be ducking in with what your character may or may not have found, via a response to the actual RP thread.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS please direct them here!

Alright, then.

[Claire didn't know the abilities of this unit, but she hoped that none of them would have to find out; she didn't fancy the idea of being attacked by whatever threats lay out there.]

Did you wake up here alone?

This is not her territory.

That much is immediately apparent to the elder Tyrannosaur when she awakens to find herself in captivity - again, but not in the paddock with which she's become familiar. She can perceive this fact before she's fully awake, before she opens her eyes, before she listens and smells. Instinct alone tells her, and her defenses are already fully raised by the time she stirs.

The next thing that becomes apparent is the sound - a hissing, and she draws herself up to stand within the enclosure as she attempts to determine the source. It sounds like prey, and she sniffs intensely, swinging her head around and along the ground in an attempt to locate it. When the sound passes without resolution, she lets out a low rumbling growl, agitatedly dragging the claws of one of her hind legs along the ground. Of course, she didn't come up with nothing from her inspection; It allowed her to discern that there is food present, and that swiftly becomes her new focus. Still injured from her recent fight and in need of the strength, she tears into the fresh kill ravenously.

With that polished off, she begins nudging her head along the side of the container. It doesn't hurt her the way the electrified paddock would... so, with her back parallel to the ground, she lowers her head and shoves at it. It gives a bit when she does, so she shoves it again. And again.

And then she's free, her thundering steps stomping out of the ruined structure. She stops and swings her massive head back and forth, surveying the area. The compound is nearby, near enough that anyone outside should be able to spot what is very clearly an immense dinosaur, but in the other direction is wide open territory.

So, she lets out one immense roar, which could be taken as a warning or a challenge depending on your own inclinations, and turns away from the compound. Of course, she's certainly likely to cross paths with anyone who may have decided to move beyond the compound's fences. (Ominous emphasis on move.)

Left behind, in the dirt among the wreckage of the container, is a tranquilizer gun... if anyone would be so inclined as to look.

Oh! Oh, like aqua cola. [A snort.] Y'really think that's here? [How incredibly ridiculous, for the Immortan's system to be in place even beyond the gates of Valhalla.

He switches gears:]

Where we goin'?

The Bullet Farm makes guns like they make cars. They're slipshod and temperamental things that jump at the chance to backfire, to kill their master before they kill the enemy. But there's thrill in shooting a firearm. Power in the way it kicks back, recoil something that cramps your fingers til you strain the muscles enough that it doesn't hurt anymore. Cars, guns, self-scarification: these are leisure activities Nux is used to. He's always excited to encounter something new from all of the above.

In the middle of scanning over the glow-pistol again Nux is asked a question. He looks Chris in the face, a small smile spread. Counts on his fingers:

"Glock, Point-Forty-Five-- uh, that's Colt-- Beretta, Smith & Wesson, Luger... turrets!" Not so versed in assault rifles and the like, handguns are more convenient and quick.

Aaaa, see. That's exactly what companies want to do. They want to screw us over. How do you think Krillin feels? Oi, he's been killed so many times. Dying again by Frieza's hands wasn't enough, he just had go to again at Majin Buu's destruction. That wasn't enough either. He gets killed again, this time by Android 17, and even his future alternate gets killed. The whole point is so screw us over, don't you get it.

Even with as long as my series has been going, you still can't outwit them. Hey-- you can't even outwit the gorilla mangaka. He is the absolute worst.

The purpose is to be screwed. Don't act so surprised about it.

[ you know, sugar is sugar and he's too cheap to be too picky about it but I mean-- if she can get a parfait that'd be great. ]

Payment first, and then we'll talk about your training. I got to make sure I'm not getting scammed here.
embiggened: (bzuh?)

IT'S ALL COOL.

[personal profile] embiggened 2015-07-15 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Woah."

This guy was the real thing. Whoever he was. Kamala follows his invitation and raises herself up on elongated legs one more to peer over the wall. Things are mostly quiet. There's rustling in the distance but if its the wind in the branches of the trees or something else has yet to be discovered.

"I played a game like this once. Our Remains. It was about a guy and this girl and the world was all taken over by zombies. There was a level in a compound just like this..." She trails off. It's ridiculous, isnt' it?

Yeah, yeah. The absolute worst kind. Sugar is the most important thing right now.
[ a lie, but he is hypoglycemic. Maybe if he makes a big deal out of it she'll get the idea.
But belatedly, he replies: ]

Boots are great and all when the world has supposedly ended, but I don't think we can be too picky here. Plenty of women can do things like save the remainder of the Earth in heels, plenty of diabetics can do amazing things without monitoring their levels, right?

But if we're going to be looking, I'll keep an eye out for boots if you keep an eye out for cake. Sound good?

Nux flinches from that voice. Knocks him back like a wave when it comes out, sounds far more intimidating than anything he could've imagined. That's the voice of an Imperator. An Immortan! This thing, is it another one of those gods he's thinking he's encountered?

It's got something long and sharp on its arm or maybe that is its arm, shining in the dim light in a ripple. Nux has very much stopped. Doesn't want a stabbing from the god-mirage and instead he just raises his hands. Palms are flat. Almost makes the V8 salute out of habit and it starts to form, an uncertain arc of his arms, but he stops himself.

"-- I won't," he says in a simple voice, for how could he contain this creature? If it's anywhere near as strong as it looks it could rend his body apart with a mere order. Squinting, more and more, he's swaying his head back and forth in slow observation. Watching how the light glosses over its body, beautiful simmering beams of white and cracked-metal sparks. It's mesmerizing.
embiggened: (ew gross)

[personal profile] embiggened 2015-07-15 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Not at all. You look good. I mean you look like you do in all the pictures.

[KAMALA NO.]

I'm from 2015. But it was only May for me yesterday. No sign of "world ending" or anything like that.

[personal profile] deathsadorablehandmaid 2015-07-15 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Aradia takes a closer look at the boy's disk. A bee! Sollux liked bees, but then he ate their mind honey and killed her. Oh well. It couldn't be helped. And it wasn't his fault, not really. ]

No, I'm not Bee. I know someone who likes bees a lot, though. I'm Aradia! Who are you?

[personal profile] deathsadorablehandmaid 2015-07-15 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[ There's flashes of some kind of panic on Regina's face. Or worry. Aradia can't quite tell which. She's never been good at human emotions, and she's been worse at it ever since she died. But Regina's lost son does present her with an opportunity for adventure. And she's definitely going to take it. ]

We could go on a hunt to look for him! It'll be an adventure.
glacius: (Regarding you.)

[personal profile] glacius 2015-07-15 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Glacius' head lifts up as Nux starts to form that salute and then checks himself, curiosity taking over his expression for a brief moment. What is it attempting to communicate with him? Not a threat, clearly, if this human's words and body language are any indication. Submission? Deference, maybe?

Whatever it is, it's a refreshing change of pace. The alien isn't about to drop his guard completely--he's still watching Nux just as intently as the War Boy is watching him--but a lot of the aggression ebbs from his body language. The icy lance of his arm lowers slowly. Whatever the human came here expecting to find, it clearly wasn't him, so his initial impression of Nux coming to stop him shatters completely. If he's not a guard, then...

"Who are you?" Glacius asks, his voice calmer now, but no less commanding of attention.
kamikaze: (pic#9321399)

[personal profile] kamikaze 2015-07-15 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Aradia. Just Aradia. She'd already told him that but-- but she looked like BEE so what if--

Now she's asking his name and he says, quick:]

Nux.

Why've you got wings? You a bug? [Can't help blurting that one out even if she might be some holy figure he's supposed to be bowing before. Too curious. Full to the brim with questions. "Bug" in this instance is surely not meant in insult; it's one of the only sort of animals he knows about.]
kamikaze: (Default)

[personal profile] kamikaze 2015-07-15 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Twin bright things are on the head and they must be eyes. The way Glacius is looking at him, it forces him to stay back. Much as he wants to step closer to investigate, unbearable curiosity flooding every muscle fiber. 'Cept that lance is dropping. Glint of it keeps him back just like the eyes.

He blinks, then:

"I'm Nux!" Wavering with thrill-and-fear of the unknown, his gaze is wide. Maybe this is the Immortan of Valhalla. Some kind of god-king come to finally judge him. Maybe he should show more respect.

Instead: "Who're you?"

[personal profile] deathsadorablehandmaid 2015-07-15 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Nux. That's a good name, Aradia thinks. One syllable--do all humans have one-syllable names? John, Dave, Rose, Jade, and now Nux. She tries his name out on her tongue. ] Nux.

[ She smiles. She likes it. It's crispy, like a grub's cocoon. ]

Nope! I'm a troll. [ She flutters her wings. They're very nice, aren't they? ] I got these when I ascended to god tier.
glacius: (Let's shoot straight.)

[personal profile] glacius 2015-07-15 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe deference isn't quite the right word for the way this human is treating him if that open questioning is any indication, but it's something close. The towering alien gestures to himself with his non-shifted hand; it's icy white in coloration, leaving trails of freezing mist in its wake.

"I am Glacius," he responds. If he'd known Nux was considering him a god, he might've been tempted to play to that... to make a show of power to put fear in the human, or maybe to demand answers. But ultimately he would've held back; even if it could have been advantageous, he's never been one to pretend to be something he isn't. Powerful? Yes, incredibly so--beyond the bounds of anything most humans had seen, in his own way. A god? No. Wouldn't be here like this, trapped and confused, if he was.

Instead Nux gets the truth. "I come from beyond your stars, beyond your solar system. I seek a way out of this compound, back to my home."
kamikaze: (pic#9321407)

[personal profile] kamikaze 2015-07-15 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh. Oh-- !! She said it. She's a god! Not a thought paid toward the designation of troll, Nux stops focusing on this shiny, shiny wings and instantly flings up a V8 salute. Fingers lace into a steeple at her. It's a quick and violent motion but he's just rushing to show the respect she deserves.]

By my deeds I honor-- Aradia! [The way he says her name sounds uncomfortable and unsure. Not the type of name you'd find around the Citadel and it sounds inglorious flicked off his tongue. Still--]
kamikaze: (pic#9321398)

[personal profile] kamikaze 2015-07-15 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Stars. Solar system? He knows what one of those is and his mind recalls the glimmering points of light they'd see on most nights. In a world where everything was dead but pollution had been buried in sand, the only time they didn't see the glory of the stars was when clouds rolled in thick and heavy.

Nux shakes his head. Doesn't wanna be the bearer of bad news to Glacius, this beautiful and terrifying star-creature, but he's going to be truthful too. Even if he twitches a little shake of nervousness:

"Can't go past the stars 'less you can fly, maybe." He bites his lower lip, all ribbed with scars. Even the polecats, when they tried building bigger masts, they'd just come swinging back down. Higher you got there was some invisible hand that pushed you right back down. That's what they said. Nux didn't understand it, but it was so.

[personal profile] deathsadorablehandmaid 2015-07-15 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Honor? That's very sweet, but Aradia's pretty sure she's not his god. He looks human enough, but not like the humans she and her friends made in their new universe. Unless Billious Slick's cancer infected the population. Was that even possible? ]

Oh! Thank you. I don't think you need to honor me, though. We can be friends, instead!

This was Kal just. sitting down on top of the wall and watching the man go because. Yep. That did just happen.

"And I'm Superman?" He announced to the air, nobody listening. So that's how other people felt when he just disappeared. Interesting.

He holds up his hand for her to see, wiggling his 5 fingers.

"In dreams we usually have more fingers than we do in reality. See? 5 of them. You can also try to write something down- we can't really read in dreams. So that's an easy one to rule out."

He doesn't say anything about the dead part because honestly he's trying to figure that one himself.
