( OPEN ) GAME START.

▶ WHO: Everyone.
▶ DATE: July 9th, 2015 (Day 1)
▶ WARNINGS: Blood, violence, general zombie horror.
▶ SUMMARY: You've met with a bad... however that line goes. Welcome to Earth.

GOOD MORNING!

Please try and ignore whatever it is that you just heard. It should only last for up to a minute... maybe.

It... it is morning, right?

There are no windows.

There's a light, but it's barely considered one. The compound runs on a solar generator, but that doesn't mean it has a lot of power. The light seems to be hanging from the ceiling, swinging precariously. That's when you might actually start to wake up, sit up, find the things that are familiar to you... and then some of the things that aren't. It'd be wise to explore the small room you're in before leaving through the steel door, but there's nobody around to tell you that.

Outside is a tightly knit compound, just as dark and metallic as the room. The hallway you're in houses dozens more doors identical to yours, and if you're unlucky there may be more people poking their heads out through them, just like you. There's a dull glowing sign that reads MEDICAL BAY but not all of you remember being hurt. Some of you may be just fine, apart from the memory of the sound you heard when waking up.

The Medical Bay is stocked with enough medicine to last a couple of months. There's almost everything that can be found in a hospital. Somebody was thinking ahead.

Outside of the Medical Bay are more doors, some are even locked—many aren't. There are living quarters, a food storage, a kitchen, some laboratories; even a room full of computers and nothing else, all with a screen asking for a password. There's only two doors out of the compound, a vehicle bay with what appear to be a few military jeeps and trucks, and the front doors. It's on the inside of the front doors that something is painted in bright red, flecked with what smell like blood:

DO NOT GO OUTSIDE WITHOUT A GUN AND WATER.
GUNSHOTS ATTRACT THEM.
HOLLOWS IS 1.3 MILES NORTH OF HERE.
GOOD LUCK.

And on the outside of the doors, if you choose to open them:

THE WORLD ENDED JULY 3RD, 2015.

Now... how long ago was that? And where is this place? Luckily for you, Hollows is a small town that can be raided. It hasn't been too long since the apocalypse—surely you'll be able to find something there. Batteries, food, weapons, maybe some people—and what you're guaranteed to find. Them, whatever that means.

Outside of the compound there's a fence with a single gate. Nothing can get past this unless you let them in for tea, so be careful. There's a shooting range and a large shed full of weapons and ammo, enough to last two months if you're careful. Guns, knives, anything that would be used by the military and police is hidden away in the shed. There are even a few hunting bows with arrows.

If you climb up the ladder to the top of the wall, there's enough room to walk along the top. There's definitely something moving in the distance, something you should definitely be worrying about. Maybe it's time to get a good look with a sniper rifle...?

Oh.

It's gone.

Maybe it was just a trick of the light. Regardless, it's impossible for everyone to stay in the compound forever. There are nefarious things at work! The choices are to go to Hollows, stick around, or go somewhere else. Really, the world is almost a blank slate. Maybe more of a used slate, but still yours to explore.

When the night comes, you should be hiding. The screamers, the ragers, whatever the hell they are, are running full tilt through the streets and across the landscape, running through anything in their way, ripping apart anything alive. If you don't make any noise, they won't notice you. Especially since they're stuck listening to each other. But if you get noticed by one, it won't be long until a horde forms... you might be able to outrun one for awhile, but they don't seem to let up on their breakneck pace. Maybe someone should have told you how to kill them.

OOC NOTES.

There will be zombies in Hollows. Whether you meet them on the way there is up to you. Apart from the undead and the animals (maybe somebody should let those poor creatures out of their houses) the town is completely deserted. In fact, the closest thing you can find to a human are the bodies of those who died without being bitten, and there's even few of those. You can find anything you'd find in a normal town here, and are free to loot and raid the houses and stores—the cops won't be coming, after all. The power is OFF apart from what you can find that is solar powered or still has a charge. If you're lucky and find another town while exploring the first few weeks, you might find an area that still has power—thank hydroelectricity.

Just keep in mind travel time... and travel expenses.

You have creative freedom over everything else. The world is open. The only stationary places are landmarks and cities—if you want to go to Texas and talk to the poor astronauts stranded up in space, it's there. (Might be a long trip, though...)

If your character can figure it out by geography before getting to Hollows, the compound is located a few hours from the west coast, in California.

The way to kill a zombie is blunt force to the head. The head doesn't need to be removed, but significant damage needs to be done to it. This does not include the throat—it needs to be a headshot.

There's also a glaring hint. The computers in the compound, asking for a password. It is impossible to hack at this time. There will be more on this later!

Finally, if your character is exploring outside of the compound (or extensively inside of it) there's a comment here for linking me the thread. You can also PM me! I'll be ducking in with what your character may or may not have found, via a response to the actual RP thread.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS please direct them here!

"Your kingdom? I didn't think they did the whole skintight thing in ye olden times."

She drags herself onto the counter next to the paper so she can sit. "So what's your name?"
blackagar: (warm: oh ur so funny)

NO never be sorry

Come on now, he's pretty sure there are at least a few remaining human monarchies in present day. If one hand covers his mouth and conveniently hides what might have turned into a real smile, it's just because he's shifting to rest his chin more comfortably into his palm. That's all.

Black Bolt. And he glances up at her, a questioning arch to one eyebrow. Her turn.

"Free Radical. Or Savage Starlight. I haven't decided."

After a few seconds of kicking her heels she relents. "I'm Ellie. There's a guy named the Flash who'll probably want to meet you. He seems to tweak out over costume-people."
blackagar: (silent: conversation)

[personal profile] blackagar 2015-07-13 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
'The Flash', article and all, is a name that gets committed to memory. Not someone he's heard of before, but he can guess a little bit about him just from that introduction. He'll probably be someone useful to meet. But in the meantime, he's glad to finally have the girl's name.

He writes FR and SS, taps the pen a few times in pseudo thoughtfulness, and circles the SS. It's clearly the superior name here.

"Aliteration wins." She throws her arms up like she's declaring a goal. "What did you mean kingdom, though? Is it a... kingdom of super-people?"

Talking to him is a bit like a guessing game. It's fun. It helps her get her mind off of... (Joel, somewhere out there in a place where it's winter. Joel, alone. Joel, dying. Starving, going septic, being found by the psychos who took her.) Things.
blackagar: no cause for alarm officer (down: momma doesn't need judgment rn)

Her energy is familiar, and a little endearing for it. It could be easy to temporarily forget the greater mystery and potential danger of this place, to spend a little time being not-exactly-royal with her. He considers her question for a few seconds, pen poised.

Then: We are Inhumans. Sometimes, by human definition, super.

[personal profile] alonetogether 2015-07-14 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Only sometimes?" She tugs the brim of her new cap, frowning. 'Inhumans' seems like a cruel name to her, but hey. He seems okay with it.

She debates, for about three seconds, whether or not this is a rude question, and then shrugs.

"So why don't you talk?"
blackagar: (silent: conversation)

[personal profile] blackagar 2015-07-14 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
If he finds it rude, it certainly doesn't show. Really, he's just glad to have skipped the can you talk approach. He debates the answer for only a little time less than Ellie took to debate asking it.

My voice would destroy this building.

He doesn't look particularly grim as he writes it; maybe it's a joke. He knows it's unbelievable to someone who isn't familiar with the sort of power that can be found in the greater universe, after all, and doesn't mind if she doesn't believe him.

"You're fucking with me."

It isn't an accusation. Before meeting Superman, the Flash, and Batgirl it would have been. Now, though, his declaration is just freaking cool.

"What the fuck happens if you sneeze?"
blackagar: (contemplate: unshaken solitude)

[personal profile] blackagar 2015-07-14 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
This time he doesn't hesitate: I don't.

That might not be strictly true, who knows, Black Bolt works in mysterious ways. But he definitely doesn't use his vocal chords for it. The world might have ended a while back, otherwise.

He straightens after that answer, pen set down next to the paper. He keeps his hand lightly on top of it though, and directs a questioning glance at her. Anything else?
alonetogether: (pic#9335540)

[personal profile] alonetogether 2015-07-14 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh oh. Did she screw up? Probably. Maybe exploding buildings with a badly-timed burp is a sensitive issue or something.

"Well..." One heel taps against the edge of the counter. "Nice to meet you, B."
blackagar: (stern: staring contest)

[personal profile] blackagar 2015-07-14 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Are they at that part of this meeting already? In that case he does have another thing to add, after a thoughtful glance around them.

Where will you go?

From what little he's seen of this place so far, it's definitely no place for kids. He doesn't quite like the thought of her wandering alone.
alonetogether: (pic#9333280)

[personal profile] alonetogether 2015-07-14 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. Maybe he's not mad. Score.

She jerks her chin toward the door. "Out of here. Me'n Batgirl are heading to this spot I had coordinates to the day after tomorrow."

Two days. Two days. Two more days of Joel being on his own.

She takes a deep breath and holds it until she feels a little better. "After that, I dunno. Try to find a way back where I came from."
blackagar: (contemplate: costume redesigns)

[personal profile] blackagar 2015-07-14 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Batgirl. That's someone he has met, and from what he's seen of her, he judges she'll be in good hands there. But two days is still a decent amount of time to run into trouble. One more addition to his growing one-sided conversation on this paper, then.

Until then?
alonetogether: (pic#9259634)

[personal profile] alonetogether 2015-07-14 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
She doesn't want to stay here. But there's nothing she can do until Batgirl is ready to go. Not really.

"Try not to get eaten by the weirdo zombies, I guess." She pulls off the baseball cap and straightens a few stray hairs. "See what I can figure out about this place."

Get in to trouble, basically.
blackagar: no cause for alarm officer (stern: no baby-eating around here)

[personal profile] blackagar 2015-07-14 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
That's about all it takes to make up his mind to offer, then. He glances down at his paper and carefully rips free a swatch, tucks it and the pen away (undignified, but undeniably useful), and steps toward the door. The motion comes with a nod of his head, a proposed invitation.
alonetogether: (pic#9335158)

[personal profile] alonetogether 2015-07-14 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, why not. What could possibly go wrong, right?

She shrugs and hops down from the counter, baseball cap still in hand. It has a tiger on it. And it's not useful in any way other than as clothes. So she's keeping it.
