( OPEN ) GAME START.

▶ WHO: Everyone.
▶ DATE: July 9th, 2015 (Day 1)
▶ WARNINGS: Blood, violence, general zombie horror.
▶ SUMMARY: You've met with a bad... however that line goes. Welcome to Earth.

GOOD MORNING!

Please try and ignore whatever it is that you just heard. It should only last for up to a minute... maybe.

It... it is morning, right?

There are no windows.

There's a light, but it's barely considered one. The compound runs on a solar generator, but that doesn't mean it has a lot of power. The light seems to be hanging from the ceiling, swinging precariously. That's when you might actually start to wake up, sit up, find the things that are familiar to you... and then some of the things that aren't. It'd be wise to explore the small room you're in before leaving through the steel door, but there's nobody around to tell you that.

Outside is a tightly knit compound, just as dark and metallic as the room. The hallway you're in houses dozens more doors identical to yours, and if you're unlucky there may be more people poking their heads out through them, just like you. There's a dull glowing sign that reads MEDICAL BAY but not all of you remember being hurt. Some of you may be just fine, apart from the memory of the sound you heard when waking up.

The Medical Bay is stocked with enough medicine to last a couple of months. There's almost everything that can be found in a hospital. Somebody was thinking ahead.

Outside of the Medical Bay are more doors, some are even locked—many aren't. There are living quarters, a food storage, a kitchen, some laboratories; even a room full of computers and nothing else, all with a screen asking for a password. There's only two doors out of the compound, a vehicle bay with what appear to be a few military jeeps and trucks, and the front doors. It's on the inside of the front doors that something is painted in bright red, flecked with what smell like blood:

DO NOT GO OUTSIDE WITHOUT A GUN AND WATER.
GUNSHOTS ATTRACT THEM.
HOLLOWS IS 1.3 MILES NORTH OF HERE.
GOOD LUCK.

And on the outside of the doors, if you choose to open them:

THE WORLD ENDED JULY 3RD, 2015.

Now... how long ago was that? And where is this place? Luckily for you, Hollows is a small town that can be raided. It hasn't been too long since the apocalypse—surely you'll be able to find something there. Batteries, food, weapons, maybe some people—and what you're guaranteed to find. Them, whatever that means.

Outside of the compound there's a fence with a single gate. Nothing can get past this unless you let them in for tea, so be careful. There's a shooting range and a large shed full of weapons and ammo, enough to last two months if you're careful. Guns, knives, anything that would be used by the military and police is hidden away in the shed. There are even a few hunting bows with arrows.

If you climb up the ladder to the top of the wall, there's enough room to walk along the top. There's definitely something moving in the distance, something you should definitely be worrying about. Maybe it's time to get a good look with a sniper rifle...?

Oh.

It's gone.

Maybe it was just a trick of the light. Regardless, it's impossible for everyone to stay in the compound forever. There are nefarious things at work! The choices are to go to Hollows, stick around, or go somewhere else. Really, the world is almost a blank slate. Maybe more of a used slate, but still yours to explore.

When the night comes, you should be hiding. The screamers, the ragers, whatever the hell they are, are running full tilt through the streets and across the landscape, running through anything in their way, ripping apart anything alive. If you don't make any noise, they won't notice you. Especially since they're stuck listening to each other. But if you get noticed by one, it won't be long until a horde forms... you might be able to outrun one for awhile, but they don't seem to let up on their breakneck pace. Maybe someone should have told you how to kill them.

OOC NOTES.

There will be zombies in Hollows. Whether you meet them on the way there is up to you. Apart from the undead and the animals (maybe somebody should let those poor creatures out of their houses) the town is completely deserted. In fact, the closest thing you can find to a human are the bodies of those who died without being bitten, and there's even few of those. You can find anything you'd find in a normal town here, and are free to loot and raid the houses and stores—the cops won't be coming, after all. The power is OFF apart from what you can find that is solar powered or still has a charge. If you're lucky and find another town while exploring the first few weeks, you might find an area that still has power—thank hydroelectricity.

Just keep in mind travel time... and travel expenses.

You have creative freedom over everything else. The world is open. The only stationary places are landmarks and cities—if you want to go to Texas and talk to the poor astronauts stranded up in space, it's there. (Might be a long trip, though...)

If your character can figure it out by geography before getting to Hollows, the compound is located a few hours from the west coast, in California.

The way to kill a zombie is blunt force to the head. The head doesn't need to be removed, but significant damage needs to be done to it. This does not include the throat—it needs to be a headshot.

There's also a glaring hint. The computers in the compound, asking for a password. It is impossible to hack at this time. There will be more on this later!

Finally, if your character is exploring outside of the compound (or extensively inside of it) there's a comment here for linking me the thread. You can also PM me! I'll be ducking in with what your character may or may not have found, via a response to the actual RP thread.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS please direct them here!

hey gurl :B also, roof?

[personal profile] shuckit 2015-07-12 09:20 am (UTC)(link)
[ when oliver goes to do his roof walking thing, he'll find that someone's already beat him to it. there's a kid, about 16, sitting at the edge of one of the highest rooftops, sitting with legs loosely pulled up near his chest, a hand latched to a forearm in front of his shins, as he watches the land to the north of the compound.

and the shadowed, distant figures that occasionally flicker on the path between the base and Hollows.

he'd gone out there earlier, with master chief. was sure of what he'd see, and, nearly, was right. but they aren't cranks. maybe it's better that they aren't - that there aren't those brief, agonizing moments of clarity that they have, when you realize there's still a person in there, decaying. whatever these things are, the person in them left a long time ago. the point is - this isn't where he's from. whatever the flat trans did to him - it didn't bring the other here, and it didn't send him to that new life the chancellor wanted him to take the other to. a bitter, broken part of him that survived so much for so long, and watch so many die, if furious, that it isn't over. not for him. maybe not ever. maybe it isn't WICKED here, but it's still his life being toyed with. and he's going to watch more die.

whether or not he hears oliver making his way up to the roof, or being anywhere nearby, he doesn't move at all or show any indication. ]

hay gurl

[personal profile] queenoftherock 2015-07-12 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[He makes a point to not draw on the boy, not yet at least. He's already gotten his lesson in drawing his bow on people he doesn't recognize, and, honestly? Oliver isn't keen on making his list of enemies even longer.

Quietly, the archer comes up to the edge. People, yet not people. Only shells. It reminded him of the Mirakuru, in a distant way, all instinct and aggression and no thought. Still, these are new to him. Those things outnumber the living.

Oliver doesn't speak, not immediately. The situation before him is more important than polite conversation. The Arrow doesn't even do polite conversation. That's only for Oliver Queen, when it's necessary.]

Try not to fall.

[ with motion out of the corner of his vision, thomas tilts his head some, enough to look at the man's boots, but doesn't bother looking up at him. just gives a non-commital shrug after a while. ]

I've got good balance.

[ somehow. they must have trained a lot before being sent up into the maze - him, Teresa, Aris, Rachel. there's a lot he can do that just some kid raised in a lab to run numbers shouldn't be able to do. there's a moment of quiet, and he looks back out to the area past the gate. ]

You been out there yet?

[personal profile] queenoftherock 2015-07-15 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
No, not yet.

[He squats onto his haunches, still watching the area before them. This would be a fight to the end, whatever this is.]

I have work to do in here before I go out there.

[Because he needs to know where this place is, some kind of clue as to what's going on, even a location. Files to read. Supplies to ration. Who knows what else. He survived the island once by the graces of others, and he's become adept to survive it time and again.

This shouldn't be so hard, right?]

[personal profile] shuckit 2015-07-17 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
[ shouldn't be so hard. if it's anything like the scorch, they'll be lucky to get even a quarter of them through this alive.

thomas knows that. he hates that he knows that. ]

Don't go without company. Or without a weapon.

[ don't be an idiot and think you're all you need to survive. all it takes is one instance of missing something, or circumstances not being in your favor. ]

[personal profile] queenoftherock 2015-07-17 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
I have a weapon.

[Or three, with the flechettes and his own fists. He could find metal rods and make those weapons too.

There's no shortage of weapons for him.]

And I have friends.
shuckit: (pic#8651201)

[personal profile] shuckit 2015-07-18 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
[ he nods a moment. good. ]

There's more in the shed down there.

[ a hand points towards the weapons shed below, that some of the others have already been through, Thomas included. ]

In case your friends need some.

[personal profile] queenoftherock 2015-07-19 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
You've already surveyed this place.

[Not a question, a statement. Second kid he's seen already that knows what they're doing. For a moment, it occurs to him that maybe he could have something more than just him fighting alone and with the small circle of trust he has.

This life couldn't ever leave him, could it?]

[personal profile] shuckit 2015-07-19 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[ his head bobs, nodding minutely, for a moment, before speaking. ]

I like to know what's around me.

[ he likes to know where the escape routes are. where the weak points other things could use to get in. ]

And I went for a run. [ it's stress relief tbh. ]

[personal profile] queenoftherock 2015-07-25 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
You went for a run here?

[He's almost impressed that he went for a leisurely run in this place.]
shuckit: (pic#8651206)

[personal profile] shuckit 2015-07-30 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
[ thomas's head tilts up, actually peering back at the man for a moment. nice hood. ]

Inside the walls. Not out there.

[personal profile] queenoftherock 2015-08-02 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[Thanks, compliments of his old teachers.]

You'll need to get out there eventually if you really want to run better and faster.

[Probably not the greatest piece of advice, but if he's a runner, and he's good at it, he'll have to learn how to dodge the zombies out there.]
shuckit: (Default)

[personal profile] shuckit 2015-08-03 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
[ whatever makes you happy, dude. ]

I can.

[ he says with a kind of hardness in his voice, after a moment of pause. he's been out there, and places like out there. places worse. he knows running for his life, for his friends lives. he's sick of it, at this point. ]

I don't need any more practice.

[personal profile] queenoftherock 2015-08-05 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Did you decide that just now?

[Oliver had been sick of it too: sick of surviving, of running, but he pushed through. He had to fulfill his mission, for his father, for everyone else he failed.

But he pushed and pushed until he thought he would break and still he pushed.]
shuckit: (pic#9343518)

[personal profile] shuckit 2015-08-09 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[ he snorts, shaking his head. ]

No. I just know.

[ he watches the man for a moment, thinking. ]

The things out there aren't worse that what I already came from. [ he admits, after a moment. ] If there's nothing else I can do, I can run.

[personal profile] queenoftherock 2015-08-12 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Running may not always be the best answer.

[Literal? Metaphorical? Oliver's learned from experience it's both. Sometimes you have to fight even if it means the end.]

[personal profile] shuckit 2015-08-16 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't need a lecture on it, okay?

[ he snaps at the man, irritation in being in a place like this again, being the lab rat again, building. on top of people looking at him like he's some sort of ignorant about any of this. he'd love to be ignorant, to know nothing about surviving horror like this. ]

I've done this. More than most people here. [ he's met a lot of them so far and they're painfully unexperienced. not that the gladers were any better, but he doesn't want to see the glader mortality rate repeated here. ] If I end up one of the ones that bites it, then believe me, it's been a long time coming.

[ he never is, though. it's never thomas. just the ones he loves. and then him, left alive somehow. despite the fact he deserves it the least. ]

[personal profile] queenoftherock 2015-08-17 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
[He'd been there once. Wanting to die. Being okay with death.

Likely, he still is okay with death. But death doesn't want him. He miraculously survived what would've been a killing blow by Ra's al Ghul.]

And you don't want to show the rest of them here how to survive it?

[Oliver's the master of keeping his head firmly stuck in his ass, but when it comes to others, at least he knows how to dislodge it with a swift kick.]

You want to die, fine. But give the rest of them here some tools to live longer than you before you go.
shuckit: (Default)

[personal profile] shuckit 2015-08-17 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Did I say I wanted to die?

[ maybe, sometimes. he knows he should, that he deserves it more than the others, but he also know they died trying to get him and the others here - away from WICKED. maybe this isn't much better, but it's alive, and he's not wasting that by croaking on purpose.

and there's another lecture. this guy seems intent on finding something to criticize, and thomas is actually irrate enough to push himself up to stand, turning to step up to the guy in the hood, worked up and holding the temper of a 16 year old, but not speaking like it's a teenage tantrum. more so someone who was done dealing with this shit a long time ago. ]

What do you think I'm doing? That message board in the lab room? I put it up. The grating protecting the windows on the cars? That was me. If there is any speck of a chance that I can get each and every last one of these people through this alive, I'll do whatever I have to to make that happen.

But I'm not stupid enough to think that'll happen. Not everyone.

[ He pauses, breathing through his mouth as he feels his hands having turning to fists at his side, clenched too tight. ]

You don't know me. You don't know what lessons I need to learn or philosophies I need to come to terms with. [ his eyes run over the guy again, and thomas shakes his head. no. fuck this. ] Being an adult and having some special uniform doesn't make you know better than me either.
