( OPEN ) GAME START.

▶ WHO: Everyone.
▶ DATE: July 9th, 2015 (Day 1)
▶ WARNINGS: Blood, violence, general zombie horror.
▶ SUMMARY: You've met with a bad... however that line goes. Welcome to Earth.

GOOD MORNING!

Please try and ignore whatever it is that you just heard. It should only last for up to a minute... maybe.

It... it is morning, right?

There are no windows.

There's a light, but it's barely considered one. The compound runs on a solar generator, but that doesn't mean it has a lot of power. The light seems to be hanging from the ceiling, swinging precariously. That's when you might actually start to wake up, sit up, find the things that are familiar to you... and then some of the things that aren't. It'd be wise to explore the small room you're in before leaving through the steel door, but there's nobody around to tell you that.

Outside is a tightly knit compound, just as dark and metallic as the room. The hallway you're in houses dozens more doors identical to yours, and if you're unlucky there may be more people poking their heads out through them, just like you. There's a dull glowing sign that reads MEDICAL BAY but not all of you remember being hurt. Some of you may be just fine, apart from the memory of the sound you heard when waking up.

The Medical Bay is stocked with enough medicine to last a couple of months. There's almost everything that can be found in a hospital. Somebody was thinking ahead.

Outside of the Medical Bay are more doors, some are even locked—many aren't. There are living quarters, a food storage, a kitchen, some laboratories; even a room full of computers and nothing else, all with a screen asking for a password. There's only two doors out of the compound, a vehicle bay with what appear to be a few military jeeps and trucks, and the front doors. It's on the inside of the front doors that something is painted in bright red, flecked with what smell like blood:

DO NOT GO OUTSIDE WITHOUT A GUN AND WATER.
GUNSHOTS ATTRACT THEM.
HOLLOWS IS 1.3 MILES NORTH OF HERE.
GOOD LUCK.

And on the outside of the doors, if you choose to open them:

THE WORLD ENDED JULY 3RD, 2015.

Now... how long ago was that? And where is this place? Luckily for you, Hollows is a small town that can be raided. It hasn't been too long since the apocalypse—surely you'll be able to find something there. Batteries, food, weapons, maybe some people—and what you're guaranteed to find. Them, whatever that means.

Outside of the compound there's a fence with a single gate. Nothing can get past this unless you let them in for tea, so be careful. There's a shooting range and a large shed full of weapons and ammo, enough to last two months if you're careful. Guns, knives, anything that would be used by the military and police is hidden away in the shed. There are even a few hunting bows with arrows.

If you climb up the ladder to the top of the wall, there's enough room to walk along the top. There's definitely something moving in the distance, something you should definitely be worrying about. Maybe it's time to get a good look with a sniper rifle...?

Oh.

It's gone.

Maybe it was just a trick of the light. Regardless, it's impossible for everyone to stay in the compound forever. There are nefarious things at work! The choices are to go to Hollows, stick around, or go somewhere else. Really, the world is almost a blank slate. Maybe more of a used slate, but still yours to explore.

When the night comes, you should be hiding. The screamers, the ragers, whatever the hell they are, are running full tilt through the streets and across the landscape, running through anything in their way, ripping apart anything alive. If you don't make any noise, they won't notice you. Especially since they're stuck listening to each other. But if you get noticed by one, it won't be long until a horde forms... you might be able to outrun one for awhile, but they don't seem to let up on their breakneck pace. Maybe someone should have told you how to kill them.

OOC NOTES.

There will be zombies in Hollows. Whether you meet them on the way there is up to you. Apart from the undead and the animals (maybe somebody should let those poor creatures out of their houses) the town is completely deserted. In fact, the closest thing you can find to a human are the bodies of those who died without being bitten, and there's even few of those. You can find anything you'd find in a normal town here, and are free to loot and raid the houses and stores—the cops won't be coming, after all. The power is OFF apart from what you can find that is solar powered or still has a charge. If you're lucky and find another town while exploring the first few weeks, you might find an area that still has power—thank hydroelectricity.

Just keep in mind travel time... and travel expenses.

You have creative freedom over everything else. The world is open. The only stationary places are landmarks and cities—if you want to go to Texas and talk to the poor astronauts stranded up in space, it's there. (Might be a long trip, though...)

If your character can figure it out by geography before getting to Hollows, the compound is located a few hours from the west coast, in California.

The way to kill a zombie is blunt force to the head. The head doesn't need to be removed, but significant damage needs to be done to it. This does not include the throat—it needs to be a headshot.

There's also a glaring hint. The computers in the compound, asking for a password. It is impossible to hack at this time. There will be more on this later!

Finally, if your character is exploring outside of the compound (or extensively inside of it) there's a comment here for linking me the thread. You can also PM me! I'll be ducking in with what your character may or may not have found, via a response to the actual RP thread.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS please direct them here!

[What can he say, he's the charming sort when he's not being all brooding and mysterious.

Morphine is useful, that he knows, but in its time and place. He's had enough experience with Vertigo to never try anything intravenous for the hell of it. Even if it is only morphine and not a drug like that.]

You have to do whatever is necessary to be prepared.

[He'd gathered enough gauze, bandages, and supplies for stitches by now. He does, though, grab a set of tweezers now.]

I have my own ways for dealing with pain.
bronzini: (why are my arms so weak)

[personal profile] bronzini 2015-07-19 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, you're telling me. I figured since I'm not exactly combat ready I might as well have something on hand.

[ she's guessing that's not a problem this guy has. because she has eyes, and all. and he doesn't exactly carry himself like a civilian. for all that gwen's one, growing up with a dad on the force meant she noticed things like that. ]

Wow. Uh - are you one of those toughing it out types?

[ you look it. that's the obvious second half there. ]

[personal profile] queenoftherock 2015-07-19 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
[Another one without combat training.

He couldn't train everyone, but he could offer, at least. This place is not meant for anyone who didn't know how to fight readily.]

Something like that.

[Not by choice, at least at first. The island had no mercy. He learned to live without it.]

What's your name?
bronzini: (he's a grown man)

[personal profile] bronzini 2015-07-19 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[ she'd believe it, whatever he said. not that gwen's so naive as to believe what other people are telling her automatically, but this guy definitely gives off an air of knowing what he's doing. ]

Gwen Stacy?

[ it's not a question, gwen. that's your name. ]

I'm from New York.

[personal profile] queenoftherock 2015-07-25 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
This place doesn't look like New York.

[He pauses for a few moments, glancing around, sweeping the area thoroughly. Who knows how long she'd been here alone, and maybe she's even lucky she wasn't attacked.

You can't save everyone, Oliver. Diggle's words suddenly ring clear in his mind. No, he couldn't, he'd come to peace with that notion.

But he could try.]

Do you need to go anywhere else?
bronzini: (give a man a fish)

[personal profile] bronzini 2015-07-26 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
No. We're really low on creepy military compounds.

[ she nods, refraining from making the obvious jokes about commuter zombies and all that. honestly, it's just a relief to be in the company of another living, breathing person.

she's perfectly capable of being self-sufficient in most situations, it's just that this particular situation might be slightly, slightly out of her wheelhouse. ]

Uh. Where were you headed next? [ smooth. she gives a little shrug, as if that's self explanatory. ] I'm still sort of stuck in exploration mode. Not sure what comes next, for something like this.

[personal profile] queenoftherock 2015-07-26 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm planning on taking this back to a somewhere central, where everyone can access this. We need to organize, we can't leave supplies scattered where we found them.

[Even if he doesn't entirely like that plan. There might be enemies looking to sabotage but for now, he has to start somewhere. It can begin in one area, then splinter forward and out.]
bronzini: (i believe that the moon does not exist)

[personal profile] bronzini 2015-07-26 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That makes sense. You sound like you know what you're doing.

[ she appreciates that kind of organization. she might've had issues with her dad, but being raised by a cop means she gravitates toward authority, in some respects, and instinctively it just makes her feel better, being around someone who can tactically work these things out. ]

[personal profile] queenoftherock 2015-07-27 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
I've had to deal with fallout before.

[The earthquakes in Starling, the island itself, Nanda Parbat... he's been through a bit too much to not know what he's doing. He'll do what it takes to at least secure the innocent and unable to fight.]

If you're coming, stay close behind me.
bronzini: (there is no bigger loser than me)

[personal profile] bronzini 2015-07-27 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
Got it.

[ she doesn't ask questions, even if that statement does pique her sympathies. no one should have to live like this. or rather, no one should have this kind of experience.

she startles into attention a moment later though, pleased to have the unspoken invitation. ]

...Thanks. Let me know if there's - well. [ she can be better than this. not so helpless. ] I'll keep my eyes open.

[personal profile] queenoftherock 2015-07-29 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
You know more about these supplies here than I do.

[Which, really, is the truth. He knows a lot about survival, and some medicines, but the specifics?

He can't really pretend to know that much when he only knows what he's already experienced.]

What do you think we'll need more than anything?

[Besides, to earn her trust, he has to show trust in her. He's in no place to be completely picky, not when she was willing to offer up what she already had.]
bronzini: (and you feed him for a day)

[personal profile] bronzini 2015-07-31 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Umm, aside from oral antibiotics, you'll want - the basics for dressing wounds, obviously. Gauze, suturing, bandages. Lidocaine - that's a local anesthetic, iodine, that'll disinfect basically anything. I don't know what we're up against here, but it's better to be prepared.

I saw... Thorazine around, but that's an anti-psychotic. Maybe it's leftover from when they were trying to figure out what was happening here.

[ before it turned into a zombie apocalypse, she's guessing. but gwen has some experience with what happens when people mess with science and get the idea to try and spread it around the populace. ]

[personal profile] queenoftherock 2015-08-02 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[An anti-psychotic.

The possibility of this being a huge human experiment becomes all the more real now. If they were making these things, it's possible they were trying to undo it too. This could be a side effect, too. It's too soon to tell, not without more information.]

Could you be able to understand medical files if we find them?
bronzini: (they meet four times a year)

[personal profile] bronzini 2015-08-06 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I might be able to.

[ if they were in new york she'd have answered yes without hesitation. now - after being kidnapped and transported about a year into the future to the proverbial end of the world - yeah, she's willing to admit there are some things she might not know. ]

I'll do my best.

[personal profile] queenoftherock 2015-08-12 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
That's all we need.

[But that's for later. Right now: the necessary items. Survival. The mystery would remain, they may not.

There are entirely too many people here to just leave alone in the dark. If they have a fighting chance, they'll take it.]

We might need to make inventory of this and make first aid kits. You might be the only one who can put that together since you know everything here. Would you be willing to do that?
