She pulls her Beretta from the waistband of her pants, holding it up so he can see that the safety is on. She switches it off, ejects the magazine, slots it back into place, and holds it up again, finger on the guard instead of the trigger.

Safety back on, gun tucked away.

As for the rest of it....

She has no answer. He's right. She doesn't care. The feeling of helplessness, of Joel's life ticking away somewhere while she tries to get away from these people, makes her throat close and her eyes start to water.

Which is about when she remembers that he's on the top of the wall and she's outside of it.

About face and start walking, Ellie.
