The sound of disgusting mouth breathing stirs him from his heavy slumber, and Kaoru's first instinct is to groan and shove at the boy next to him. What really wakes him up is the fact that there's no boy there. (And that the thread count of the sheets is super unacceptable.) He's completely awake in a split second, sitting up abruptly in bed and blinking the sleep away from his eyes.
For a moment he thinks he's gone blind, but then the light above him momentarily flickers a little brighter and he realizes that he's just in a dimly-lit room. He slowly gets off the bed and heads for the door, cracking it open and peeking out.
"Medical Bay." He shuts the door quickly and pats himself over, looking down at his silk pajama pants, but everything seems to be okay. So why on earth is he here? ... where is here, anyway? And where did that breathing come from? It's gone now, replaced by nothing but the quiet humming of the light in his room. On one hand, he's glad there's no creeper ghost in the room with him or something. On the other hand, it's leaving him with this weird feeling that he's the only person in the world, and that's just not possible.
Running a hand through his hair, Kaoru lets out a huff of breath and gets to work. The best plan of action he can come up with now is to search around this room and the medical bay in general. So after he goes over every centimeter of his very small lodgings, only to find a kit of art supplies and a stupid, blurry photo, he leaves the room, feeling very self-conscious about his lack of a shirt.
"Hikaru?" he calls as he wanders aimlessly through the compound, arms crossed over his chest. "Where the fuck are you?"
