beth greene | the walking dead

weapons storage / around the compound

( this isn't the first time in recent memory that beth has woken up in a strange and unfamiliar place, and she swears that getting kidnapped had better not become a common theme in her life experience, or she'll probably scream. the very first thing that beth does upon waking up is to find herself a weapon. it's just what she's been taught, by rick and countless others. find a weapon, no matter what it is. even if it's just the needle in your iv, or the smallest blunt instrument - anything's better than your bare hands when dealing with walkers.

the cache that she finds seems almost too good to be true. she approaches it with a little apprehension, a small amount of healthy suspicion. she picks a handgun, releasing the magazine to make sure that there are bullets inside, and it happens to be full.

but of course, gunshots attract them. so the next thing she takes is a large hunting knife, like the one she'd had before grady memorial. it's just too bad there's no holster for it in her loose blue hospital scrubs. )

Why'd you leave all this behind?

( she's just. thinking out loud, really.

what happened to you? )

~~~night time
( the zombies in her world don't scream. they might moan, but it's always at the same unsettling monotone. and they can keep it up for hours. the sound of it is enough to drive anyone crazy.
this is worse. this is worse by far. and there's nothing anyone can really do but hide at this point, because going outside is practically suicide. she has a gun, but at this point it's the knife that's probably more valuable. something to kill a stray walker quickly and quietly, before they get noticed.
she's hiding on the second floor of an abandoned house, crouched by a window so she can watch them. clutching her weapons tight and wishing to god there was someone else here, anyone. it'd be better than listening to their screaming alone.
the floorboards behind her creak soon after, and she turns with her hunting knife in hand and her heart in her throat.
because maybe the zombies don't always scream. )
