( OPEN ) GAME START.

▶ WHO: Everyone.
▶ DATE: July 9th, 2015 (Day 1)
▶ WARNINGS: Blood, violence, general zombie horror.
▶ SUMMARY: You've met with a bad... however that line goes. Welcome to Earth.

GOOD MORNING!

Please try and ignore whatever it is that you just heard. It should only last for up to a minute... maybe.

It... it is morning, right?

There are no windows.

There's a light, but it's barely considered one. The compound runs on a solar generator, but that doesn't mean it has a lot of power. The light seems to be hanging from the ceiling, swinging precariously. That's when you might actually start to wake up, sit up, find the things that are familiar to you... and then some of the things that aren't. It'd be wise to explore the small room you're in before leaving through the steel door, but there's nobody around to tell you that.

Outside is a tightly knit compound, just as dark and metallic as the room. The hallway you're in houses dozens more doors identical to yours, and if you're unlucky there may be more people poking their heads out through them, just like you. There's a dull glowing sign that reads MEDICAL BAY but not all of you remember being hurt. Some of you may be just fine, apart from the memory of the sound you heard when waking up.

The Medical Bay is stocked with enough medicine to last a couple of months. There's almost everything that can be found in a hospital. Somebody was thinking ahead.

Outside of the Medical Bay are more doors, some are even locked—many aren't. There are living quarters, a food storage, a kitchen, some laboratories; even a room full of computers and nothing else, all with a screen asking for a password. There's only two doors out of the compound, a vehicle bay with what appear to be a few military jeeps and trucks, and the front doors. It's on the inside of the front doors that something is painted in bright red, flecked with what smell like blood:

DO NOT GO OUTSIDE WITHOUT A GUN AND WATER.
GUNSHOTS ATTRACT THEM.
HOLLOWS IS 1.3 MILES NORTH OF HERE.
GOOD LUCK.

And on the outside of the doors, if you choose to open them:

THE WORLD ENDED JULY 3RD, 2015.

Now... how long ago was that? And where is this place? Luckily for you, Hollows is a small town that can be raided. It hasn't been too long since the apocalypse—surely you'll be able to find something there. Batteries, food, weapons, maybe some people—and what you're guaranteed to find. Them, whatever that means.

Outside of the compound there's a fence with a single gate. Nothing can get past this unless you let them in for tea, so be careful. There's a shooting range and a large shed full of weapons and ammo, enough to last two months if you're careful. Guns, knives, anything that would be used by the military and police is hidden away in the shed. There are even a few hunting bows with arrows.

If you climb up the ladder to the top of the wall, there's enough room to walk along the top. There's definitely something moving in the distance, something you should definitely be worrying about. Maybe it's time to get a good look with a sniper rifle...?

Oh.

It's gone.

Maybe it was just a trick of the light. Regardless, it's impossible for everyone to stay in the compound forever. There are nefarious things at work! The choices are to go to Hollows, stick around, or go somewhere else. Really, the world is almost a blank slate. Maybe more of a used slate, but still yours to explore.

When the night comes, you should be hiding. The screamers, the ragers, whatever the hell they are, are running full tilt through the streets and across the landscape, running through anything in their way, ripping apart anything alive. If you don't make any noise, they won't notice you. Especially since they're stuck listening to each other. But if you get noticed by one, it won't be long until a horde forms... you might be able to outrun one for awhile, but they don't seem to let up on their breakneck pace. Maybe someone should have told you how to kill them.

OOC NOTES.

There will be zombies in Hollows. Whether you meet them on the way there is up to you. Apart from the undead and the animals (maybe somebody should let those poor creatures out of their houses) the town is completely deserted. In fact, the closest thing you can find to a human are the bodies of those who died without being bitten, and there's even few of those. You can find anything you'd find in a normal town here, and are free to loot and raid the houses and stores—the cops won't be coming, after all. The power is OFF apart from what you can find that is solar powered or still has a charge. If you're lucky and find another town while exploring the first few weeks, you might find an area that still has power—thank hydroelectricity.

Just keep in mind travel time... and travel expenses.

You have creative freedom over everything else. The world is open. The only stationary places are landmarks and cities—if you want to go to Texas and talk to the poor astronauts stranded up in space, it's there. (Might be a long trip, though...)

If your character can figure it out by geography before getting to Hollows, the compound is located a few hours from the west coast, in California.

The way to kill a zombie is blunt force to the head. The head doesn't need to be removed, but significant damage needs to be done to it. This does not include the throat—it needs to be a headshot.

There's also a glaring hint. The computers in the compound, asking for a password. It is impossible to hack at this time. There will be more on this later!

Finally, if your character is exploring outside of the compound (or extensively inside of it) there's a comment here for linking me the thread. You can also PM me! I'll be ducking in with what your character may or may not have found, via a response to the actual RP thread.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS please direct them here!

"I'm not going to waste bullets. Your eye bent my knife."

She resists the urge to hug herself. Irrational anger that this guy gets a power like that, that it doesn't belong to Joel, makes her want to lash out or cry or both. She's been wanting to cry a lot today. Fucking stupid.

"I'll fix it."

Somehow. A blank look. "Wait, your name is actually Superman?"

Hi. I need to think of a better name than 'Ellie' if I'm gonna keep meeting people called Superman and the Flash.

[ Maybe she can call herself Free Radical or something. She liked that title. God, she misses her comic books.

She stows the gun in her waistband and wanders to the target to start carefully twisting her arrows free, inspecting each one for damage. ]
So you just woke up? How do people keep getting here without the rest of us noticing?

[personal profile] notafraidofyou 2015-07-12 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hey, there's nothing wrong with being friendly, even if you are trying to get the hell out of here.]

Yeah. [He shifts the backpack on his shoulders.] Figured I'd have a look around while it was light enough to be looking. You?
metaspeed: (don't call my name)

[personal profile] metaspeed 2015-07-12 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Really?

[ Barry's eyebrows go up, but he shakes his head, schools his expression into one of solemnity even if a part of him wants to ... what? Smile? Laugh?

Who knew that he'd be so desperate for a sign or a word that Iris isn't going to hate him forever because of all the secrets he'd kept from her. Good intentions or no, he knows how wrong it'd been to keep her in the dark. He knows that now. ]

I mean, if you're going to be here, I'm glad I am too.

[ There's that earnestness and a quiet promise that no matter where Iris goes, Barry will be sure to follow. He might not keep her in the dark in order to protect her any longer, but that need to protect her at all isn't going anywhere, sorry Iris. ]

[ You know, he believes you can kick his ass, actually. Most of the girls he interacts with in his series like to kick his ass-- even though he made the history books as somebody fearsome, Gintoki has grown too lazy to pick fights with random people.
As Moira lifts her crowbar, Gintoki lifts his weapon and rests it against his shoulder. ]

Aaaa, I see. Surely you heard the news about the "world ending." I'm not sure if I buy into that. Looks like we're caught up cleaning up somebody else's mess.
Some useful items came with me. It's like some reality show.

[ that's not what he believes, but he is skeptical of it and thinks that maybe they're not completely alone with zombies here. ]

This world is in the future for me. It's not 2015 where I come from.
[ he looks like he's from the shogunate period with that kind of Japanese style clothes. ]

There's computers, I hear, but you can't even play Minesweeper on it. What kind of piece of crap is that?

a;

Waking up in a strange place when the last thing she remembers is getting on their new ship is pretty unnerving. Waking up to voices she doesn't recognize even more so, especially when she can't find anyone from her crew around once she fully wakes up. But she's been lost before, many times over- she could figure that out without breaking out a sweat. It takes a lot more than that for Gamora to freak out, or even worry a little bit. She just has to focus, find out where she is, and figure out how to get back to where she wants to be from there.

No, what makes her actually wonder if something really, really wrong is going is that she wakes up with a picture of Nebula next to her. She doesn't even notice the dissertation on Kevin Bacon util later, and by the she isn't in the mood for heroes. Whoever did that knew how to get to her, what her weak spot was and she never, ever should show her weak spot. So forgive her if she's a little pissed off.

And by pissed off I mean she's currently sneaking around and pushing the first person she finds against a wall, to of her blades on their throats.

"Whatever you know about this place: tell me. Or you won't be able to tell me anything soon."

b;

After a couple of probably awkward encounters that way, she's calmed down a bit.

But she still has no idea how to get back home, or how to get an actual working ship. So she's scavenging for any piece of technology she finds right outside the building (she isn't stupid enough to get too far yet) and checking them out for pieces she can use. So far she's had no luck, wherever she is is pretty damn behind when it comes to technology.

This is going to take her longer than she had expected.

roof;
[ This isn’t his ship. He knows that before he opens his eyes, the now-familiar hum of life support systems replaced by distant and distinctly more human sounds — It WAS our fault... and some idiot left it behind in V— less distant is the voice that jolts him to alert, but when he looks for the source there isn’t one, and this wouldn’t be the first time his nightmares bled through into the first few moments of waking.

It isn’t the first he’s woken up somewhere unfamiliar with no idea how he got there, either. He looks at his hands. Clean. Weapons unused. Partner missing. Okay.

He moves with purpose, like he belongs here and like he knows where he’s going, through hallways and up stairwells of what looks like a military base but doesn’t seem to have any military personnel in it, until he reaches the roof. High ground and a good vantage point on— ]

What the hell–?

[ —Earth. The words are breathed as his boots scrape to a stop against emulsion. That’s Earth alright, but empty. No cars on the highway. No guards at the gates. Nothing.

Huh. ]
armory;
[ First things first, he needs more weapons. A rifle with a scope, some spare clips, an extra set of knives. Gunshots attract them, the sign said, whatever them is, and so he settles cross-armed in front of the crossbows like they’ve personally offended him, mouth downturned.

Crossbows, man.

Maybe there’s a silencer in here somewhere... ]

Ow, would ya—

[ Between crossbow wall and supply trunk, he jabs an elbow at his jacket. –The strangely bulbous jacket he’s got on in the middle of summer and now seems to be. squirming. around the midsection. ]

Alright, alright, hold your horses, I’ll find you a backpack or something.
kitchens;
[ 1.3 miles is nothing much if he knows where he’s headed, but when he’s headed into the unknown, even he has to admit it doesn’t hurt to be a little prepared. (Somewhere, Daisy ought to be very proud.) An MRE or two might be worth its weight, but more importantly: water. He’s filling canteens at the sink, metal fingers curled around the neck of a bottle under the tap, With his off hand, he extends a carrot he'd dug out of one of the fridges over his shoulder, toward the open flap of his backpack.

The pack gives a huff. ]

Hey. [ Nothing. He bounces the carrot. ] Come on. I know it’s no Skrull-Thai fusion — trust me, I know — but at least it ain’t freeze-dried.

[ A grunt answers. Bucky shrugs. ]

You loss, pal.

[She laughs for him then, high pitched and brief but enough to break this weird vibe between them. Iris even adds in an elbow to his side, just like old times. To make sure he knows who is still the boss around here and that he's a dork that's lucky to have her in his life.]

Yes, nerd. Really.

[Her smile lingers when he adds that he's glad to be here too. Keep on the little moments like this, Barry and their friendship should right itself sooner or later.]

Okay. We need to make a plan. Have you already looked around this place? Do we stay here or find out what's up north?

[personal profile] frequented 2015-07-12 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
( it's offense that he takes automatically -- the smile dropped, the pout applied, i didn't try to hurt anyone, i tried to save them. there are exceptions, of course, barry who he tried to kill ( it was personal ) and all the people whose lives his endangered during his chessmatch on the highway ( it was necessary ), but these things were only a result of him not being able to stop the accelerator explosion. he sucks in through his teeth, baring them like a wolf about to attack -- if hartley's the bad guy, it's only because he was forced into that position. because "wells" forced him into that position. )

Come now, Barry. You must be smarter than that. ( a gesture out beyond the wall. ) I don't want this.

[ oh that's wonderful little Jojo is following him now.
She proves a point, though, and he scratches behind his neck. Man, this place was already a pain. ]

I'm sure the more original characters of yours are here somewhere.
[ original— because you're a ripoff.
Maybe he's just saying that to make himself feel better. No way Kagura and Shinpachi aren't here. They're a team and to split them apart like this.. that just doesn't fly with Gintoki.
He's a fear he's already thought of, but kept his expression and emotions fixed even though he is worrying.

He is worrying a lot. ]
naturallywavy: (《21》)

[personal profile] naturallywavy 2015-07-12 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Either that, or maybe there are people, but they're just too scared of the toilet overflowing.
[ Gin isn't sure if he believes the world has ended like that note bluntly says. He thinks there might be people who live here and that belong here instead of these recruited people like himself and this girl. ]

Have you met anybody else yet or been outside?
[ he hasn't.. just yet. Though, he did do his exploring in the compound. ]
naturallywavy: (《30》)

[personal profile] naturallywavy 2015-07-12 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I was never told about any kind of "hangover etiquette." Oi, take it easy, I'm a newbie to this kind of crap.
[ newbie to what kind of crap??? being decent and having manners? probably. ]

What is hell is with all of these doors? Are they all taken by people like you and I?
blackagar: (threat: eyeflashlights!)

[personal profile] blackagar 2015-07-12 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[ It doesn't need an answer of words. He just glances over at her, and all the cold threat of his bearing is back again. His face is hard, his jaw his set; it's the face of a man with perfect confidence in his will and his strength to back it up. He shakes his head once, then looks forward again. ]
controlledvariable: (Batgirl -- my bad)

omg

[personal profile] controlledvariable 2015-07-12 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[@god: why do you hurt me this way.]

Oh boy.

[This is her very articulate response to seeing a young version of her ex-boyfriend, because she is a mature and seasoned vigilante.

Who is freaking out a little.]

I'd probably advise against closing your eyes for too long in this place.

[Trying so hard to keep her voice even.]

You got a name, kid?
blackagar: no cause for alarm officer (threat: GONNA DO ACTION)

[personal profile] blackagar 2015-07-12 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[ That would be sort of unfortunate. It'd be tough to take care of more of those creatures without some collateral damage, and apparently whatever this store carries is of some value. He moves on with a small frown, gets to the door, and — ah, power is off. That won't be opening automatically any time soon. He glances back over his shoulder at Batgirl for a moment, enough to tell her to be ready, and hauls the doors apart. It's only silent and dark inside — so far. ]

[At least she is too, except unlike Gintoki she doesn't hide her feelings because that's for non-shounens.]

Course they are; things like this happen, main characters always go through it together. It's probably that...cliche "separated at first" scenario. So it just means I gotta find 'em before one of them gets really hurt, y'know?

[Yeah, Zombies are dangero-]

It'd be easier for one of 'em to finally kill the other without witnesses.

[Oh.]
metaspeed: (when  he's  lookin)

[personal profile] metaspeed 2015-07-12 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
There's nothing, really, here. Just old rooms and a lot of really freaky stuff. Some computers, too. And some old lab equipment and medicine I don't recognize.

Oh.

And this.

[ Barry fully pulls away from Iris now in order to retrieve the bag of shoes he'd found at the foot of his bed when he'd awoken. Prying it apart, he lets her look into it if she wants to. ]

I took some medicine and whatever else I thought might be useful and added it to the bag. Who knows when we might need it?
blackagar: (warm: you gonna finish that taco)

[personal profile] blackagar 2015-07-12 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Ah, things are starting to make sense. Where ever this human is from, and there had been some hint in the manner of his dress and bearing, it's not anywhere Black Bolt has been before. He wonders if it's even the Earth that he knows.

But finding a way to explain that the function of the box is only possible while it's intact sounds like a little more than he's up to with a new acquaintance. So he just shakes his head, a glimmer of amusement somewhere in it, and adds a shrug like he doesn't know. This thing is clearly Nux's now, and it seems to him that it's for whatever Nux wants with it. ]

Same. Let's get out of here before any adults show up and stop us.

[ She eases the gate open just enough to slip out, holding it open for him. ] I'm Ellie.
metaspeed: (push  the  dangerous)

[personal profile] metaspeed 2015-07-12 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Barry nods in confirmation. ]

I don't know but I think I'm a little more curious about what the 'here' is first. I don't recognize any of it, do you?

[ Honestly, compared to Central City, it's much, much darker, grimmer, dirtier, scarier and he can't imagine this compound ever having a place in Central City's map. ]

Anyway, Ellie, did you really meet someone called Superman? That's a pretty loaded name.

[ Oh, to be super. And now Barry's curious to meet this guy too. ]
unoradinary: (Goodbye Polnareff)

[personal profile] unoradinary 2015-07-12 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
So if we're together...I guess that'd mean they'd put Momiji with the girl. And Ichiko with glasses.

For like, comedic effect or somethin'?

[Teach her the ways of pairing up crossover characters for maximum comedy dynamics, Gin-sensei.]
forgive: i will not get used to it. (pretty girls get used to it;)

[personal profile] forgive 2015-07-12 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[ kate has seen the warning on the doors, and she knows what to do. you don't come out of an ancient mayan temple just to lose your cool now (except she is very freaked out by all of this; she just doesn't show it, out of a survival instinct that burns brighter in her now). her first decision being in the medical bay is to stock up on what she can, anything she might need after she finds that gun — as much as it scares her, she can't stay in here. there's bandages and pills and syringes, and she grabs a few of each, creating her own makeshift first aid kit as she scrambles to throw it all into a container she emptied out onto the floor. (it's getting pretty crowded in here.)

now she just needs a bag — and where did she set down that crowbar? her heart is kind of jackhammering throughout all of this as she moves swiftly, trying to keep a clear head. she tucks some of her hair behind her ear as she moves from a kneeling position to her feet. as she straightens and turns, her body smacks into something solid. the supplies she just gather clatter to the ground and she stares up at two wide shoulders — a suit all too familiar. and her pulse skyrockets.

they have to stop meeting like this. ]

Richie? You're—

[ alive. and here, too. ]

[ Steve's sitting at the edge of the roof with his sketchbook in his lap, trying to think, trying to translate the mental chaos of the past day into something that makes sense. The silver, unpainted shield sits next to him, face-up. His feet dangle over the edge.

Strategically, not a great position.

He's still not perfected his situational awareness, particularly in scenarios where he feels secure. So he doesn't hear someone come up, focused as he is on drawing the curves of the horizon - until he hears someone whisper what the hell in a voice that's almost familiar.

He turns sharply, starts to reach for the shield, and then stops.

Instant confusion.

He recognizes the arm. That's easy. The face is eerily similar. But it isn't the man he met hours ago, his Bucky Barnes.

Is this guy shorter?

What the hell is definitely the phrase of the hour.]
