( OPEN ) GAME START.

▶ WHO: Everyone.
▶ DATE: July 9th, 2015 (Day 1)
▶ WARNINGS: Blood, violence, general zombie horror.
▶ SUMMARY: You've met with a bad... however that line goes. Welcome to Earth.

GOOD MORNING!

Please try and ignore whatever it is that you just heard. It should only last for up to a minute... maybe.

It... it is morning, right?

There are no windows.

There's a light, but it's barely considered one. The compound runs on a solar generator, but that doesn't mean it has a lot of power. The light seems to be hanging from the ceiling, swinging precariously. That's when you might actually start to wake up, sit up, find the things that are familiar to you... and then some of the things that aren't. It'd be wise to explore the small room you're in before leaving through the steel door, but there's nobody around to tell you that.

Outside is a tightly knit compound, just as dark and metallic as the room. The hallway you're in houses dozens more doors identical to yours, and if you're unlucky there may be more people poking their heads out through them, just like you. There's a dull glowing sign that reads MEDICAL BAY but not all of you remember being hurt. Some of you may be just fine, apart from the memory of the sound you heard when waking up.

The Medical Bay is stocked with enough medicine to last a couple of months. There's almost everything that can be found in a hospital. Somebody was thinking ahead.

Outside of the Medical Bay are more doors, some are even locked—many aren't. There are living quarters, a food storage, a kitchen, some laboratories; even a room full of computers and nothing else, all with a screen asking for a password. There's only two doors out of the compound, a vehicle bay with what appear to be a few military jeeps and trucks, and the front doors. It's on the inside of the front doors that something is painted in bright red, flecked with what smell like blood:

DO NOT GO OUTSIDE WITHOUT A GUN AND WATER.
GUNSHOTS ATTRACT THEM.
HOLLOWS IS 1.3 MILES NORTH OF HERE.
GOOD LUCK.

And on the outside of the doors, if you choose to open them:

THE WORLD ENDED JULY 3RD, 2015.

Now... how long ago was that? And where is this place? Luckily for you, Hollows is a small town that can be raided. It hasn't been too long since the apocalypse—surely you'll be able to find something there. Batteries, food, weapons, maybe some people—and what you're guaranteed to find. Them, whatever that means.

Outside of the compound there's a fence with a single gate. Nothing can get past this unless you let them in for tea, so be careful. There's a shooting range and a large shed full of weapons and ammo, enough to last two months if you're careful. Guns, knives, anything that would be used by the military and police is hidden away in the shed. There are even a few hunting bows with arrows.

If you climb up the ladder to the top of the wall, there's enough room to walk along the top. There's definitely something moving in the distance, something you should definitely be worrying about. Maybe it's time to get a good look with a sniper rifle...?

Oh.

It's gone.

Maybe it was just a trick of the light. Regardless, it's impossible for everyone to stay in the compound forever. There are nefarious things at work! The choices are to go to Hollows, stick around, or go somewhere else. Really, the world is almost a blank slate. Maybe more of a used slate, but still yours to explore.

When the night comes, you should be hiding. The screamers, the ragers, whatever the hell they are, are running full tilt through the streets and across the landscape, running through anything in their way, ripping apart anything alive. If you don't make any noise, they won't notice you. Especially since they're stuck listening to each other. But if you get noticed by one, it won't be long until a horde forms... you might be able to outrun one for awhile, but they don't seem to let up on their breakneck pace. Maybe someone should have told you how to kill them.

OOC NOTES.

There will be zombies in Hollows. Whether you meet them on the way there is up to you. Apart from the undead and the animals (maybe somebody should let those poor creatures out of their houses) the town is completely deserted. In fact, the closest thing you can find to a human are the bodies of those who died without being bitten, and there's even few of those. You can find anything you'd find in a normal town here, and are free to loot and raid the houses and stores—the cops won't be coming, after all. The power is OFF apart from what you can find that is solar powered or still has a charge. If you're lucky and find another town while exploring the first few weeks, you might find an area that still has power—thank hydroelectricity.

Just keep in mind travel time... and travel expenses.

You have creative freedom over everything else. The world is open. The only stationary places are landmarks and cities—if you want to go to Texas and talk to the poor astronauts stranded up in space, it's there. (Might be a long trip, though...)

If your character can figure it out by geography before getting to Hollows, the compound is located a few hours from the west coast, in California.

The way to kill a zombie is blunt force to the head. The head doesn't need to be removed, but significant damage needs to be done to it. This does not include the throat—it needs to be a headshot.

There's also a glaring hint. The computers in the compound, asking for a password. It is impossible to hack at this time. There will be more on this later!

Finally, if your character is exploring outside of the compound (or extensively inside of it) there's a comment here for linking me the thread. You can also PM me! I'll be ducking in with what your character may or may not have found, via a response to the actual RP thread.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS please direct them here!

A. No Running In The Halls!

[There's a girl running down the hall. It's probably dangerous for her to be running down a hall she doesn't know the directions of, but there she goes, running anyway.

By the way, she's carrying a sword. Laughing, and swinging it around indiscriminately.

Someone, please stop this girl.]

B. Food Storage

[So probably, after hearing about the zombie apocalypse ending the world, most people would be kind of freaked out, right? Maybe take things a little more seriously than they would normally?

Seo's not really into that. She doesn't do that "freak out" thing. So right now, she's going through the food pantry, digging through cabinets and cupboards of canned foods, looking for a snack.]

Chips, chips chips chips... Or soda? Popcorn would be okay too...
controlledvariable: (Batgirl -- slapping you was fun)

[personal profile] controlledvariable 2015-07-11 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
[Steph doesn't recognize Kamala, either, though the lightning bolt makes her think of the Marvel family. She's pretty sure Mary Marvel didn't get a make over and an ethnicity change.

She'd ask about it, but you can't just ask people why they're not white.]

Can't say it was much of a decision, I woke up like this.

[***flawless]

I'm Batgirl, you got a name?
unoradinary: (Good thing he didn't take my pants off)

oh yeah A i guess but thats obvious

[personal profile] unoradinary 2015-07-11 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh my god why is this girl insane.

Ran turns a corner and within two or three seconds has a face full of sword...or she would, if she didn't have anime reflexes. Both her arms shoot up and her hands snap together, catching the flat of the blade between them.

STILL SWEATING A GODDAMN OCEAN THOUGH.
]

Wh-what the hell's wrong with you!?

[ Woop there it is. He sighs. ]

Jury's still out. [ Quoting Natasha? Yes he is. ] As far as I know, it was 1943 this morning.
controlledvariable: (Batgirl -- come again?)

[personal profile] controlledvariable 2015-07-11 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
[Steph is definitely leaning towards "robot" rather than "android", considering the way Lambda talks, but she won't jump to conclusions just yet.]

Would you be able to tell if you were transported anywhere? Like - teleported?

[She figures a place that has robots will probably have teleportation.]

[sweating a STONE OCEAN perhaps??????

Seo's a little taken aback that someone actually CAUGHT THE SWORD, and lets go of the handle so she doesn't put any more force on it that could put her responsible for this girl getting hurt.]

Oh no, the fun police. Chill out, this is probably one of my dreams, anyway. There's no way someone would actually look like you in real life.
controlledvariable: (Batgirl -- got your zipline)

lmk if this doesn't work!

[personal profile] controlledvariable 2015-07-11 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
[The zombies don't always scream, Steph has found, which is why she's perched on a rooftop at night, infrared on so she can see if anyone or anything is lurking around in the dark.

She spots a warm blob crouched by a window and figures it's a person, because the zombies she's seen so far don't have quite the same heat signature. They have the same sort of heat signature as what's heading up the stairs towards the human, and Steph curses under her breath as she starts running.

The creak of the floorboards is, in fact, a zombie, but it's followed by the sound of footsteps as Steph races up the stairs behind it, and promptly shoots it in the back of the head with her grapple gun.

Which is - gross, but silent and quick, the zombie collapsing in a heap as Steph looks towards Beth.]

You okay?

[Her assumption proves correct, as Lambda nods once more.]

Affirmative. This unit is equipped with a spatial transfer function. No such transfer was detected.

Noone who'd...?

[Rude, sister.

She parts her hands, then before the blade can drop catches it by the handle in midair with a swipe of her arm.........turning the weapon back over to it's owner (by the handle, even!), despite the fact she's clearly too fucking irresponsible to keep this. Ran couldn't leave someone defenseless in a zombie apocalypse ok.
]

Oi, I hate to break it to you, but this is real.

If this was real and I was kidnapped, why'd they give me a sword? And why wasn't I tied up and put in weird positions? That's what really happens to kidnapped girls. Come to think of it, I did eat some weird chicken last night, didn't I...?

[She shrugs, taking back the sword and then leaning on it like it's a walking cane. Look, she doesn't have a sheath for it, what else is she supposed to do?]

I definitely think I saw your character design on TV, too. Definitely dreaming.
unoradinary: (I saw Star Platinum move through time)

[Yeah, okay.

She's gonna reach over, pinch Seo's cheek and give it a bit of a tug then.

[ At once, he's putting the bandage down and reaching for the gun again, holding it close to his body as he surveys him.

Agent Maine's armour was large. It was not this large. Either the Freelancer program had some very tall people (they didn't, not like this, Locus has their personnel files and knows exactly how tall each and every notable Freelancer was) or this was something else.

Unless some giant man had stolen the armour (which, admittedly, is possible considering Locus' own situation) or he was looking at one of the UNSC's handiwork.

None of it bodes well for him, so he stays silent while staring and readies his camoflauge. ]

Cindy Moon/Silk - Marvel 616 - ota!

[personal profile] strongas 2015-07-11 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Ten more minutes, mom!
[ It's the classical music that wakes her, and lets her know something's off. The dim, sterile room isn't too different from her bunker-- the. bunker. She can't keep thinking of it as hers. She has to move on. Except her makeshift find-my-family mural isn't webbed to the wall like it should be. Her laptop bag is on the floor, but her laptop is nowhere in sight. And wasn't she just at work? She's dressed in work clothes. She could have sworn--

Something is obviously wrong here. She leaps out of bed, her Silk-sense throbbing in her head, bringing her attention to full immediately. Wherever she is, this place is dangerous. She bends down to pick up the piece of paper lying atop her bag and reads it aloud. ]
"Black l pls." What is that supposed to mean? [ She stuffs it in the bag, which she straps around her shoulder. Out of the corner of her eye she sees something bright yellow. It's a stuffed pikachu. She has no idea why that's there, but she grabs it and puts it in her bag as well. Pausing before she tries the door, she takes the bag off her shoulder and spins herself into her Silk costume. (Costume? Uniform? Costume.) If this place is dangerous, it's probably better she face it as Silk and not Cindy. Then she puts the bag over her shoulder again, peeks her head out the door, and creeps down the hallway. ]

I need to go to the nurse...
[ With her Silk-sense blaring nonstop, Cindy's starting to get a real headache. Lucky for her, she seems to be right near a medical bay. She makes her way there and starts raiding the cupboards, looking for some aspirin. Once she's found a bottle, she pulls down the red handkerchief covering her face and swallows a couple pills down. She moves to place the bottle back on the shelf, but then, thinking better of it, instead sticks it in her bag. She also grabs some bandages and disinfectant, figuring you can never be too careful. She isn't trying to be stealthy or anything, and might be making some noise should anyone wander past. ]

Wonder where this leads?
[ Once she's stocked up on medical supplies, Cindy branches out. She passes door after door, until she comes across the front doors with the big, scary message on them. Thoroughly creeped out, she decides not to go there just yet, until she has some idea what's going on.

She tries each door she passes after that, finding a kitchen, a pantry, a lab, and finally a room full of computers. She reads the message on the screen asking for a password, and, thinking it couldn't hurt to try, enters 123456. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this is the wrong password. Then, thinking about the piece of paper she found with the cryptic message, she tries LLLLLL, then llllll, then blacklpls, all to no avail. Shrugging, she continues onwards. ]

[ Kurt used to call them his funny feelings, and while John lacked that almost prescience he knew when to trust the sudden knots in his gut. Plenty of things should have happened that didn't; no one stood at attention or identified themselves. This guy, whoever he was, was not UNSC.

John inched to the side with his hands down at his sides barely a hair's breath from his sidearm. Feet firmly planted wide apart, John made himself into a human wall bottlenecking the doorway. Neither of them said a word as the situation went from bewildering to tense as tripwire.

Since Rikki brought up alternative universes:

[personal profile] alonetogether 2015-07-11 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah.

[Joel. Joel. Joel Joel Joel.

She can't really be in a different universe, right? She can't be. Rikki was nuts, Batgirl is calling herself Batgirl, all Ellie herself needs to do is get back to-

Get back to winter. Get back to infected that act like infected. Get away from giant robot soldiers and purple dogs and messages about the end of the world that make no sense.

She jams her fingers into her hair.]

Shit, shit, shit.

[Deep breath.] Okay. Sure. Let's.

[Vague gesture down the street before she starts walking.]

[ Cindy was just making her first step outside, laptop bag with medical supplies and what she'd found when she woke up strung over her shoulder. She barely has time to squint in the sunlight before a blur turns into a guy and he's asking her all these questions.

And of course all she notices is the stuffed animal in his hand. ]

Oh, you got one too? [ She pulls out the plush toy she'd found under her bed. It's a pikachu. ]

[ He's not going to admit it to himself; he's not even going to think it. But he wishes Felix was here—he could talk his way out of anything (...and into anything, more likely)

After a few long moments of this stare down, Locus finally talks, his voice, filtered hard through the helmet speaker, doesn't take away the calculating tone. ]

[Maybe stupid, but also pretty surprising. Not to mention confusing, because he's pretty sure he's not regarded as the most trustworthy person to be around these days. He'll be raising both eyebrows, but it's not like she can actually see it.

He's just not going to comment on that action right now.]

Hey, you said it. Not me. [About... Supergirl, he means. Not that he can accurately judge someone's cuteness with that cowl on. Or, that he would actually want to.

... Though, the fact that he's expected to recognize her is interesting. Does he know she's Batgirl? Yes. Does he know who the person under the costume is, at this moment? Nope. Not really.]

I dunno. You tell me. Am I being a dick, or should I recognize you? I can't help it if all you little soldiers start looking the same after a while.
controlledvariable: (Batgirl -- Why is HE here?)

[personal profile] controlledvariable 2015-07-11 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
[She knows she shouldn't let the comment get to her, but it does, and her jaw tenses briefly as she scowls at him.

But she won't rise to the bait; if he wants a real reaction out of her, he's going to have to try harder.]

If you're from the same Gotham as me, you should. I've been Batgirl for a while, since the last one gave it to me.

[That's important. She isn't one of Bruce's, she's a Batgirl.]

[ The world ended. The world was over. And whatever ended the world, was attracted by the sound of gunshots. One of which Cindy just heard from around the building. She goes to check it out, scaling the building and cutting across the roof by way of a shortcut, and sees some girl at what looks like a shooting range. Huh. ]

At least you hit the target at all.
