( OPEN ) GAME START.

▶ WHO: Everyone.
▶ DATE: July 9th, 2015 (Day 1)
▶ WARNINGS: Blood, violence, general zombie horror.
▶ SUMMARY: You've met with a bad... however that line goes. Welcome to Earth.

GOOD MORNING!

Please try and ignore whatever it is that you just heard. It should only last for up to a minute... maybe.

It... it is morning, right?

There are no windows.

There's a light, but it's barely considered one. The compound runs on a solar generator, but that doesn't mean it has a lot of power. The light seems to be hanging from the ceiling, swinging precariously. That's when you might actually start to wake up, sit up, find the things that are familiar to you... and then some of the things that aren't. It'd be wise to explore the small room you're in before leaving through the steel door, but there's nobody around to tell you that.

Outside is a tightly knit compound, just as dark and metallic as the room. The hallway you're in houses dozens more doors identical to yours, and if you're unlucky there may be more people poking their heads out through them, just like you. There's a dull glowing sign that reads MEDICAL BAY but not all of you remember being hurt. Some of you may be just fine, apart from the memory of the sound you heard when waking up.

The Medical Bay is stocked with enough medicine to last a couple of months. There's almost everything that can be found in a hospital. Somebody was thinking ahead.

Outside of the Medical Bay are more doors, some are even locked—many aren't. There are living quarters, a food storage, a kitchen, some laboratories; even a room full of computers and nothing else, all with a screen asking for a password. There's only two doors out of the compound, a vehicle bay with what appear to be a few military jeeps and trucks, and the front doors. It's on the inside of the front doors that something is painted in bright red, flecked with what smell like blood:

DO NOT GO OUTSIDE WITHOUT A GUN AND WATER.
GUNSHOTS ATTRACT THEM.
HOLLOWS IS 1.3 MILES NORTH OF HERE.
GOOD LUCK.

And on the outside of the doors, if you choose to open them:

THE WORLD ENDED JULY 3RD, 2015.

Now... how long ago was that? And where is this place? Luckily for you, Hollows is a small town that can be raided. It hasn't been too long since the apocalypse—surely you'll be able to find something there. Batteries, food, weapons, maybe some people—and what you're guaranteed to find. Them, whatever that means.

Outside of the compound there's a fence with a single gate. Nothing can get past this unless you let them in for tea, so be careful. There's a shooting range and a large shed full of weapons and ammo, enough to last two months if you're careful. Guns, knives, anything that would be used by the military and police is hidden away in the shed. There are even a few hunting bows with arrows.

If you climb up the ladder to the top of the wall, there's enough room to walk along the top. There's definitely something moving in the distance, something you should definitely be worrying about. Maybe it's time to get a good look with a sniper rifle...?

Oh.

It's gone.

Maybe it was just a trick of the light. Regardless, it's impossible for everyone to stay in the compound forever. There are nefarious things at work! The choices are to go to Hollows, stick around, or go somewhere else. Really, the world is almost a blank slate. Maybe more of a used slate, but still yours to explore.

When the night comes, you should be hiding. The screamers, the ragers, whatever the hell they are, are running full tilt through the streets and across the landscape, running through anything in their way, ripping apart anything alive. If you don't make any noise, they won't notice you. Especially since they're stuck listening to each other. But if you get noticed by one, it won't be long until a horde forms... you might be able to outrun one for awhile, but they don't seem to let up on their breakneck pace. Maybe someone should have told you how to kill them.

OOC NOTES.

There will be zombies in Hollows. Whether you meet them on the way there is up to you. Apart from the undead and the animals (maybe somebody should let those poor creatures out of their houses) the town is completely deserted. In fact, the closest thing you can find to a human are the bodies of those who died without being bitten, and there's even few of those. You can find anything you'd find in a normal town here, and are free to loot and raid the houses and stores—the cops won't be coming, after all. The power is OFF apart from what you can find that is solar powered or still has a charge. If you're lucky and find another town while exploring the first few weeks, you might find an area that still has power—thank hydroelectricity.

Just keep in mind travel time... and travel expenses.

You have creative freedom over everything else. The world is open. The only stationary places are landmarks and cities—if you want to go to Texas and talk to the poor astronauts stranded up in space, it's there. (Might be a long trip, though...)

If your character can figure it out by geography before getting to Hollows, the compound is located a few hours from the west coast, in California.

The way to kill a zombie is blunt force to the head. The head doesn't need to be removed, but significant damage needs to be done to it. This does not include the throat—it needs to be a headshot.

There's also a glaring hint. The computers in the compound, asking for a password. It is impossible to hack at this time. There will be more on this later!

Finally, if your character is exploring outside of the compound (or extensively inside of it) there's a comment here for linking me the thread. You can also PM me! I'll be ducking in with what your character may or may not have found, via a response to the actual RP thread.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS please direct them here!

I don't care about the baker.
The bakery itself is what I'm worried about.

[ a baker without the bakery is pretty pointless. ]

I'll keep that in mind.

[ if it comes out very dryly, that's because ever since she's been sent to the ground, toilets haven't exactly been something available to clarke. mount weather had them, but then clarke spent very little time there, and there are some facilities in the drop ships, but -

let's just say a few toilets not working is still better than what she's used to.

reginaprocacis: (are you quite done yet)

[The sheer disrespect... okay, keep calm, Regina.]

I am going to keep exploring this place. What you do is of no matter to me.

[Truly, a large part of her would be glad to be rid of the brat. The rest is aware that she is a child. Much like Regina's own.]

I heard the ocean when I woke up.

[ she doesn't understand what's happening, either — doesn't understand how or why they're here, who brought them here and why they've disappeared without a trace, what is going on and who all the people around them are.

they're not from the ark, they're not grounders and they're definitely not mountain men. some of them don't seem to be from the same time as them or world as them, and none of it makes sense. maybe she's eaten something wrong or gone too long without fresh water and this is all just one big hallucination.

clarke takes the photograph from him, smoothing it out with her fingers. her tone is quiet, hesitant over his name,
] Bellamy —

[ but she doesn't immediately know how to continue. she wants to be, needs to be strong for his sake and her own, but it still costs her several long moments before she manages something akin to conviction. ]

If she's here, we'll find her. She's strong.

That is not true.

[ wanda's tone is somewhere between stubborn conviction and necessity, something that she has to believe because if she doesn't, what else is there?

if the world can't be protected, wanda cannot make up for what she has done and her brother died for nothing, for a fleeting victory.
]

[ it is real, he is real: here and solid and alive, and wanda can hardly believe it. maybe she doesn't need to believe it, maybe she can just take this second chance and grasp it with both hands, hold on to it firmly. if magic is real, if aliens and science can create it, why should she not have her brother back?

she squeezes his hand, smiling.
] We will.
borntochoose: (C - (grin))

[personal profile] borntochoose 2015-07-20 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Clark nods, grinning. The 'similar' part goes right over his head for now, but it will make a lot more sense after he's had a couple conversations with people from parallel worlds.

"Unless you want to spend the rest of your days here going 'Hey, you' as you run after him. I can help you look for food for him if you want? But we will probably not find a lot of variety."
borntochoose: (Look into my eyes)

[personal profile] borntochoose 2015-07-20 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
That’s more or less when Kal realizes the other man hasn’t uttered a word out since this conversation started and he suddenly feels really, really stupid. But the man doesn’t seem to mind, so he bites down apologies that would only make is even more awkward and gives him a nod of understanding.

“Sorry, I don’t know sign language. But you can nod or say no, right? So are you an alien?”
borntochoose: (K - (no))

[personal profile] borntochoose 2015-07-20 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Considering this is our very first conversation I don't really have much to go by, I'm afraid. [There's your confirmation, Jason.]

Okay, I have to ask: is the helmet for safety reasons...?
borntochoose: (and tell the others)

[personal profile] borntochoose 2015-07-20 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, he definitely has to give her that. He makes a face as he looks around.

“But can’t even rule that out. I mean” He motions at her, then back at himself. “They brought us here. Somehow, they managed to kidnap us from our own world and bring us here and so far no one I have talked to has any idea how they managed it, or any memory of it. What’s building a facility like this next to that?”
blackagar: (stare: whoa say that again)

[personal profile] blackagar 2015-07-20 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
That's an interesting question. Clothing aside, Black Bolt knows he looks very human -- and so does this man, for that matter. The question must mean he's not. After a few seconds spent in consideration, Black Bolt shakes his head. Then he gestures toward Kal, an eyebrow raised questioningly. You are?

If Johanna wasn't so committed to her act, this is where she might laugh. Hero. She'd know that tone of disdain anywhere, because if she had to talk about heroes? She'd talk about them in that exact same way, with her lip curled in disgust. She's never felt that urge; wouldn't know what to do with it if she did.

So while it's not quite in her to like someone, and it certainly isn't in her to respect someone right off the bat--she can at least appreciate that tone. Sister, you know what's up.

But for the sake of the act, she keeps even that under wraps. Blinking uncertainly, she hazards a glance at the woman's face, like she's trying to read her.

"What do you mean?" And, cautiously, as if wary of being snapped at, she adds: "A hero would save everyone. They would get us all out. That's what heroes do."

I found, uh, a used disposable camera, and some blurry pictures in my room. And I got some supplies from the medbay, otherwise. [ they're all shoved in various pockets and the small bag she has tied around her waist. handy dandy. ] Other than that, I kinda focused on finding other people first, so I haven't taken the best look around.
minefield: (006)

[personal profile] minefield 2015-07-20 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't be too surprised if it's all scarily legit, then. I mean, what would be the point in bringing a bunch of random, confused people together just to clean up a mess?

[ she has a disposable camera and some blurry pictures that apparently were left with her by whoever brought them here. moira doesn't see the use in them, nor why they thought it would be a good idea to leave them with her, but hey, maybe something will come of them. ]

Yeah, it's not for me, either. Last I remembered, it was 2013 - maybe 2014, depending. I kinda lost track of time—

[ on an island where she was trapped for about six months, or something like that, fighting infected, zombie-like beings. fun days. ]

I dunno, but they might have something useful on them. There will probably be someone who can crack into them, otherwise we're pretty much screwed. Then you can play Minesweeper.
kleptos: (095.)

[personal profile] kleptos 2015-07-20 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
It's already happened, it doesn't affect you, you're just gonna have to deal with it. Besides, some good came from it, and it's not like you're going to have to worry about the bad stuff that comes from it, alright? Geeze.

[ Damnit, that's so not cool. He still thinks that breaking into the Pentagon was awesome, she's not going to change his mind about that, but come on. Just think it's cool as well! ]
kleptos: (004.)

[personal profile] kleptos 2015-07-20 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool. [ but hey, Peter can run past the zombies or, you know, throw them against each other, against trees, whatever works. He's got that going for him, at least. ]

Sure. I can run ahead, let you know what's there as well, be back in no time, so I'm not completely useless.
kleptos: (044.)

[personal profile] kleptos 2015-07-20 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, cool. I've never met someone outside of my family with the same name. Kinda unusual, in an all-American suburb, huh? [ though it doesn't quite explain why she's so affected by the name, he supposes that's explanation enough.

he can always just assume that she misses him, that he isn't here with her, or something else like that. though his mind would never go to 'dead', it's easy to assume that he is missing from her, at least. ]

You feeling okay, though? You've looked kinda off ever since I mentioned my name. Are you that upset about our names being similar? Is it a bad thing? Is he not here with you or something? [ and there's his tact, gone. ]
borntochoose: (Are all made of gold)

[personal profile] borntochoose 2015-07-20 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
So he's not an alien. Interesting. He wishes he could ask 'then what are you' because playing 20 questions when he has no idea of what's in other worlds would take forever. So he'll just take 'superpowered human' and run with it.

"Yes, I am. Kryptonian, that's why I asked you. I had... never seen anyone else fly. What else-" He purses his lips for a second. Then: "Can you do other things?"
axeyou: (yeah? - what do they say about me)

[personal profile] axeyou 2015-07-20 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Johanna laughs, short and loud. The way he says that makes it sound like assured fact, but come on. The idea of it is funny. Panem doesn't have any slapstick, but the way Johanna is picturing the scene is pretty close. Not with her as the attacker. No one better even think about laughing at her.

"No way. So I don't get any demonstration? I just have to take your word for it? Come on, that's no fun--you can't tell me something like that and not show off a little."

There could be mutts that indestructible. There could be some kind of modification, some surgery. The Capitol is capable of all kinds of wonders. But Johanna doesn't shrink back with any kind of fear. She gives him another wink, daring.

"Show off. For me. Please?"

My brother is dead.

[ the grief is recent, but she does not think that it will sit any less heavy and acidly on her tongue when it has been a month or a year or a decade. he had been the other half of her and now he is dead.

( of course, what wanda does not yet know is that he's here and alive - she hasn't reached for him with her mind because the times that she's found nothing but emptiness had been too painful. )
]

And your mind, it's like his. [ fast. ] You share not only a name.
axeyou: (smiles - she's so precious)

[personal profile] axeyou 2015-07-20 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
She gives him a tentative nod at his offer, still big-eyed and a little uncertain, but warming up. Like he threw her off a little with his questions about her clothes, but now that he's back to offering to help her with all that genuine chivalry and helpfulness, she's all kinds of touched, and maybe even a little hopeful. A smile flicks over her face.

"It's awfully kind of you to offer." She's a little steadier when she speaks, emboldened by his support. "You're-- You're sure? I don't want to be a burden to you--but I'm so grateful to, for your help, I don't know-- I don't know where to start."

She reaches out a hand for him, either to take hold of, or to offer his arm to her to take. If he offers the arm with the bag? So much the better. The question now is, how long to play this out? He's going to notice the axe if she gets close to him, but she can explain that one. What she really wants to know if what's in the bag is worth taking off of him now.

"You didn't wake up with anything? Well--your clothes," and she looks away, quickly, any blush hidden by the dirt on her face. Can a blush be a tone of voice? For her it is. "Obviously. And your bag. That's it?"

"I can control it", Regina says almost indignantly, because if there's one thing she prides herself in, it's her skills. She worked hard to get where she is, hours spent with her nose in books of spells and theory, lots of theory. To demonstrate, she lets the fireball go out, leaving them in the very dim light of the corridor.
blackagar: (warm: relax)

[personal profile] blackagar 2015-07-20 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Now he's getting it. What could almost be a flicker of amusement crosses his face, and this time he nods. Can he do more than fly? Black Bolt can hardly recall ever having met someone that could only fly.

But he'll probably have an easier time satisfying his own curiosity on the ground rather than pantomiming in midair, so he indicates downward with a nod and then begins to descend himself, trusting he'll be followed. He aims for a small clearing below, just outside the fencing.
metaspeed: (hard  to  feel  the  rush)

[ That and also, Barry Allen literally is incapable of being mean; not a single mean bone in his body.

At the challenge, he raises an eyebrow and smiles.

This seems familiar, considering he'd done the same thing with Oliver Queen. Only, he's preeeetty sure Ellie isn't going to fire another couple of extra arrows into him out of nowhere.

Right?

He nods. ]

Yeah. Go for it.
metaspeed: (cause  i'll  be  dancing)

[personal profile] metaspeed 2015-07-20 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay. Good.

[ YOU SURE DID, aren't you glad, Steph? ]

Uh ... yes? I mean, I don't think there's been any other Flash before me, considering people were calling me the 'Red Streak' before that. Not the coolest name, that's for sure.
