( OPEN ) GAME START.

▶ WHO: Everyone.
▶ DATE: July 9th, 2015 (Day 1)
▶ WARNINGS: Blood, violence, general zombie horror.
▶ SUMMARY: You've met with a bad... however that line goes. Welcome to Earth.

GOOD MORNING!

Please try and ignore whatever it is that you just heard. It should only last for up to a minute... maybe.

It... it is morning, right?

There are no windows.

There's a light, but it's barely considered one. The compound runs on a solar generator, but that doesn't mean it has a lot of power. The light seems to be hanging from the ceiling, swinging precariously. That's when you might actually start to wake up, sit up, find the things that are familiar to you... and then some of the things that aren't. It'd be wise to explore the small room you're in before leaving through the steel door, but there's nobody around to tell you that.

Outside is a tightly knit compound, just as dark and metallic as the room. The hallway you're in houses dozens more doors identical to yours, and if you're unlucky there may be more people poking their heads out through them, just like you. There's a dull glowing sign that reads MEDICAL BAY but not all of you remember being hurt. Some of you may be just fine, apart from the memory of the sound you heard when waking up.

The Medical Bay is stocked with enough medicine to last a couple of months. There's almost everything that can be found in a hospital. Somebody was thinking ahead.

Outside of the Medical Bay are more doors, some are even locked—many aren't. There are living quarters, a food storage, a kitchen, some laboratories; even a room full of computers and nothing else, all with a screen asking for a password. There's only two doors out of the compound, a vehicle bay with what appear to be a few military jeeps and trucks, and the front doors. It's on the inside of the front doors that something is painted in bright red, flecked with what smell like blood:

DO NOT GO OUTSIDE WITHOUT A GUN AND WATER.
GUNSHOTS ATTRACT THEM.
HOLLOWS IS 1.3 MILES NORTH OF HERE.
GOOD LUCK.

And on the outside of the doors, if you choose to open them:

THE WORLD ENDED JULY 3RD, 2015.

Now... how long ago was that? And where is this place? Luckily for you, Hollows is a small town that can be raided. It hasn't been too long since the apocalypse—surely you'll be able to find something there. Batteries, food, weapons, maybe some people—and what you're guaranteed to find. Them, whatever that means.

Outside of the compound there's a fence with a single gate. Nothing can get past this unless you let them in for tea, so be careful. There's a shooting range and a large shed full of weapons and ammo, enough to last two months if you're careful. Guns, knives, anything that would be used by the military and police is hidden away in the shed. There are even a few hunting bows with arrows.

If you climb up the ladder to the top of the wall, there's enough room to walk along the top. There's definitely something moving in the distance, something you should definitely be worrying about. Maybe it's time to get a good look with a sniper rifle...?

Oh.

It's gone.

Maybe it was just a trick of the light. Regardless, it's impossible for everyone to stay in the compound forever. There are nefarious things at work! The choices are to go to Hollows, stick around, or go somewhere else. Really, the world is almost a blank slate. Maybe more of a used slate, but still yours to explore.

When the night comes, you should be hiding. The screamers, the ragers, whatever the hell they are, are running full tilt through the streets and across the landscape, running through anything in their way, ripping apart anything alive. If you don't make any noise, they won't notice you. Especially since they're stuck listening to each other. But if you get noticed by one, it won't be long until a horde forms... you might be able to outrun one for awhile, but they don't seem to let up on their breakneck pace. Maybe someone should have told you how to kill them.

OOC NOTES.

There will be zombies in Hollows. Whether you meet them on the way there is up to you. Apart from the undead and the animals (maybe somebody should let those poor creatures out of their houses) the town is completely deserted. In fact, the closest thing you can find to a human are the bodies of those who died without being bitten, and there's even few of those. You can find anything you'd find in a normal town here, and are free to loot and raid the houses and stores—the cops won't be coming, after all. The power is OFF apart from what you can find that is solar powered or still has a charge. If you're lucky and find another town while exploring the first few weeks, you might find an area that still has power—thank hydroelectricity.

Just keep in mind travel time... and travel expenses.

You have creative freedom over everything else. The world is open. The only stationary places are landmarks and cities—if you want to go to Texas and talk to the poor astronauts stranded up in space, it's there. (Might be a long trip, though...)

If your character can figure it out by geography before getting to Hollows, the compound is located a few hours from the west coast, in California.

The way to kill a zombie is blunt force to the head. The head doesn't need to be removed, but significant damage needs to be done to it. This does not include the throat—it needs to be a headshot.

There's also a glaring hint. The computers in the compound, asking for a password. It is impossible to hack at this time. There will be more on this later!

Finally, if your character is exploring outside of the compound (or extensively inside of it) there's a comment here for linking me the thread. You can also PM me! I'll be ducking in with what your character may or may not have found, via a response to the actual RP thread.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS please direct them here!

YOU KNOW WHAT, HE'S NOT EVEN GOING TO ASK.

He points up toward the top of the wall.]

"When it works out." He grins crookedly. "I'll practice, but I think for now I'm going to keep it close in the field."

He shoves against the doors and eases himself out first, not willing to risk Rikki's safety, even if she does seem capable. "...Clear. I don't see anything."

[Hold on she's just gonna kinda. gently. gnaw on it and lick it. Kinda try to finagle it with her claw hand lizard stump arms before putting it (gently, not dropping it) back on the ground, snuffling and sniffing at it. It's like a bare tree branch where some past kills have brushed by it.

Normally being touched by people only happens when they're in their harnesses for checkups. It's scary and unsettling and they can't move or bite or run or move. Alpha and Not-Alpha (that other people that talks to them in calm and soothing tones) are gentle with them.

Charlie is not in a harness, and this people-thing is not Alpha or Not-Alpha. Though her head is still low to the ground, sniffing the blood though becoming disinterested in long eaten kills, she lets out a growling purr of warning, eyes watching, and her mouth opens enough to show many teeth. People-thing no-face better watch theyself before they wreck theyself.]

[Easy, easy, this is a word she knows because of Alpha. Easy, to calm, to not attack, to settle. Clint makes the mistake of stepping back, and Charlie tilts her head, trying to determine what this all means. Clawed fingers flex, and she edges, sliiiides a half of a step forward like she's tentatively following. Or determining if he's going to run, which might make him food. Maybe he will be like Alpha and make her chase but make her hit the gate instead. Hit the door? Her eyes, with another tilt of her head, eyeball the doorway he'd come out of.

She's not stupid. Youngest of the siblings she might be, but still a raptor who can be a clever girl. Not smart enough to calculate if she could reach him before he reached the door, but smart enough to consider if this is what will happen.]

[She might, if Blue orders it so. Raptor-other gives Charlie pause. They've never encountered other raptors, other packs or loners. This one is hurt, and Echo gave a cry for fight, but does this one have pack, too? Are they going to attack or just snap and snarl until someone dies? Isn't raptor-other letting Blue know that she's not here to steal the pack? Ugh, is Echo inciting a fight they don't need?

She doesn't back down, of course, keeping low but following Blue's lead, as always, but she does keep a sharp eye out on the beta for a cue. An answer to an unasked question. Finish the job? Leave? Make this one a new member?]

[Meanwhile, trudging down the hallway on the opposite side is one familiar-looking face. Normally hearing blundering about is a sign to be cautious...if not outright hostile, but luckily Heavy's able to recognize his one-eyed fried without much difficulty.

Also he's loving the sombrero. It's a real nice touch.]

Demoman! [He calls out loudly, giving his teammate a wave. As if his giant status made him almost invisible or something.]

"Is it, Captain Rogers?" she replies, suddenly looking tired in a way mere age can't explain, but holding herself very, very straight. "I've found there to be little honor in war. We survived, that's all. Billions didn't."

Yes, she said "billions."

It's not really my place to judge but--probably.

[Yeah, it probably isn't her place to just considering how carefree she seems to be. Though her smile's pretty hollow, it definitely doesn't seem to mask any kind of fear or dread. Boredom, though? Yep.]

They'll realize it soon enough. Or they'll become zombie food.

[Or so she assumes. Because come on.]
crotchpunch: (We shoot without a gun)

[personal profile] crotchpunch 2015-07-20 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
[That just gets her to smirk harder. It's the challenging kind, but if he doesn't get the message, that's fine. She'll translate.]

What, you don't believe me? Why not take a step out there, away from this place. Unless you're chicken.
crotchpunch: (And say goodnight)

[Eyebrow raise. Admittedly talking pop culture isn't exactly the first thing she expected to be doing, but...oh who is she kidding.]

Alright. So there's this guy called Jigsaw, like I mentioned earlier. He kidnaps people and puts them in these really sadistic situations. In order to get out, you've gotta do something horrible. Usually kill someone, cut off your own leg, you know. Typically horrible movie VS. Anyway, one girl had this bear trap thing on her head. She had to get the key to out of this guy's corpse in order to unlock it. Which is gross, but when she finally gets up the nerve to do it, turns out the guy's still alive.

So she kills him, rips the key out of him, and uses it to save her ass. It's hilarious.

[For those first few seconds, there's nothing to keep it from being a good moment for her. If Storybrooke doesn't give them any downtime, she can only imagine what they're in for here - another fight to get home, more of the same considering all they've been through - but it doesn't matter. She's learned that for a few seconds at a time, they two of them can be happy. Sometimes it stretches out to minutes, to days, weeks if they're lucky, but a normal life isn't in the cards for them. It's not the kind of thing you get to have when your parents are Snow White and Prince Charming, and your boyfriend is Captain Hook - but if that's the tradeoff for having someone who loves her enough to face every challenge with her, then Emma isn't about to complain.

They do alright most of the time. Neither one of them has the best luck with love, and they both struggle with what that means for their relationship. They have every reason to turn and run if they wanted to, but they haven't. And she's at the point where she believes they won't. She never expected to find love again after Neal left. She didn't want it, she didn't believe in it, and she definitely didn't believe she was capable of having it. He might have heard her say it before, but to Emma it's a first; and a damn good one, too.

If they're supposed to be concerned with the situation they're in, that will have to wait. She lets herself get lost in that kiss; having him near, knowing he's safe, feeling loved and realizing her feelings are out in the open. It's not perfect, but it's strong, and real, and worth fighting for. She kisses him like it's the start of something better for them because she thinks it is. There's no hiding her feelings from him anymore, no being afraid that the truth will be too much to take. She's not waiting for him to walk away, or to decide it's too much. Part of her will always be afraid of losing him, but that means she'll have to fight that much harder to make sure she doesn't.

Things are going well until he pulls back, which forces her to remember where they are, and how few answers they have. She'd start to lay out the questions she has about the building, but Killian's quicker at putting words together - the last ones she was expecting him to say.]
The curse?

[There's no curse. They've dealt with plenty of them, but this isn't one. And she didn't disappear. There was no darkness, at least not in the way he seems to be asking about it.]

Killian, what curse?

[She frowns, brow lined and heavy, head tilted to meet his gaze.] I think I'd remember disappearing.

Yeah, yeah. Inhuman, with the... [ Is that the genetics one?? Aliens? He can't even keep them straight. He trails off, then gives her a confused look at the abrupt follow-up. ]

What? The Inhumans do?

[ Witches. First thought is Scarlet Witch, second thought is oh god no, but it's all covered up by a smooth and only mildly curious: ]

Witches, yeah. We've got those, too. Mutants are— well, they've got powers. Superpowers. You know, like flying.

No. [ That's to her first observation, though it's a little quiet, still pensive. They're capable of a lot of things, though his first thought whenever shit gets this weird is definitely mutants. Maybe aliens.

The question startles him, earning a quick look, openly curious.
]

Um— yeah. Yeah, whatever you need. Just say when. [ Uh. ] And where.

I don't know

[But her expression is more curious than anything negative; she doesn't know what a superpower is, but she's curious.]

How do they fly?
wipedclean: (call them a whole)

Already found a couple.

[ Natasha. Wrong Natasha, though. Katie's the right one, thank god, but that still doesn't make this all less of a mess. ]

Or they found me, I guess. [ A thoughtful pause, then Clint finally slides the arrow back into the quiver at his hip, turning his full attention to Pietro. ]

What's she look like?
embiggened: (oh shi-!)

[personal profile] embiggened 2015-07-20 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Er.

But don't tell anyone. I thiiiink it's supposed to be secret.

[Oh God, is Medusa going to kick her ass for that. But then again.]

You know the Inhumans? I mean, even I didn't know who the Inhumans were.

[ clarke pulls back the rest of the way and he doesn't fight her on it, his gaze shifting to take stock of what the people around them are doing. clarke is strong, capable, and she's more than proved that time and time again — even when they went toe to toe. neither of them can afford to be weak, but then, they never really could, could they? weakness demands its price in blood. bellamy doubts that's changed with the scenery, even if most of the people milling about look as disoriented as he feels.

his eyes cut to her axe when she lifts it and then flicks back to her, catching her gaze. he doesn't understand most of what's happening, not really, and it's not a feeling that's settling well with him.
]

Well, at least they armed you. Maybe we should hunt down that building. [ the amusement in his tone is deadpan, sarcastic, but not a slight against her. a rise and fall of his shoulders and he's tugging the photograph of octavia out of his back pocket, offering it to her. ] I don't know where she is.

[ a swallow and he averts his eyes. ] I found a pair of headphones, too. I left them back in that room.

[ that room because it isn't his. he doesn't want it, doesn't want anything to do with it. ]

[ His new, pie-loving friend is still coming along, then. That's good. Black Bolt would like to know a little more about him (and not to mention about their surroundings) before he's content to see him off. He shifts to the side without a glance at Nux, making wordless room for him to walk along with him.

He glances at each door as they pass them, checking through the small windows, looking for anyone else. He gestures at the other side of the hall, Nux's side, and directs a quick glance at the boy. It's a request to do as Black Bolt is doing, checking rooms, and hopefully he would have the sense to give some sign if he sees anyone. Hopefully. This request is banking a lot on intuition that he's not sure Nux has about him yet. ]

[ This is a little embarrassing. The two of them are obviously missing something here, aren't they? He sets the can of broth down on the counter and moves onward, further into the kitchen. There has to be... ah. That, he recognizes.

Black Bolt plucks an apple out of a bowl of them, found tucked away on some further counter, inspects it just long enough to be sure it really is an apple, then glances back toward Ollie with a short, sharp tone of a whistle. And once he has her attention, he tosses over the apple.

It's a start, right? ]
